Louis XIV "Finding Out True Love Is Blind" Why do I keep listening to this song?

These guys sound just a bit whacked. I keep finding myself playing that song though.
Any pics of this group around?

"Hey carrot juice"

Yeah, this song is kind of addictive. I've been debating whether I should pick up the new EP. Apparently they're from around here but are getting at least a little national attention now.

I like this song too. It has a nice 80's vibe to it. There seems to be a lot of great new songs being played on the alt stations (KROQ 106.7, Indie 103.1) lately.

On their debut major-label EP, Illegal Tender, Louis XIV display an admirable swagger and a dirty mind. Singer Jason Hill has a sneer you can see right through your speakers and the music is right there with him, clattering, strutting, and groaning. The five songs call to mind AC/DC (the group that dropped "Dirty Deeds" and "Big Balls"), Bowie (if he were raunchy), the Rolling Stones, the White Stripes, and even a middle-school Fiery Furnaces. The group wraps its hooky, nasty songs up in glitter rock beats, handclaps, dual harmony guitar leads, and melodies that will have you humming along before the song is half over. Lyrically, they will win no prizes from anyone for decency: "Finding Out if Love Is Blind" is offensive to every race and kind of girl imaginable; "Louis XIV" displays an overdeveloped sense of self-worth; and the best song here, the smarmy, hilarious Adam & the Ants-esque "Illegal Tender," is just too goofy to be taken seriously. "Marc," a tender piano ballad that would have quite nicely fit on Ziggy Stardust or the White Album, is the only song that seems serious, and it is just as good as the silly, dirty rockers. As an introduction to Louis XIV, this EP is just about perfect — one listen will leave you clamoring for their first full-length album. One can only hope it is as goofy, filthy, and wonderful as this EP.

Sounds interesting.

Looks interesting too.

For the curious, but lazy:

Finding Out True Love Is Blind

Ah chocolate girl, you're looking like something I want
(finding out true love is blind)
Ah and your little Asian friend she can come if she wants
(finding out true love is blind)
I want all the self conscious girls who try to hide who they are with makeup
(finding out true love is blind)
You know it's the girl with a frown with the tight pants I really want to shake up
(finding out true love is blind)

Hey, carrot juice, I wanna squeeze you away until you bleed
(finding out true love is blind)
And your vanilla friend, well she looks like something I need
(finding out true love is blind)
I want miss little smart girl with your glasses and all your books
(finding out true love is blind)
And I want the stupid girl who gives me all those dirty looks
(finding out true love is blind)

Wind you up and make you crawl to me
Tie you up until you call to me
[x2]

Ah brown girl with those with the hot pants shaking that thing on the street
(finding out true love is blind)
Yeah and the short girls with the way they crawl knocks me off my feet
(finding out true love is blind)
And all the tough girls who never want me to see them cry
(finding out true love is blind)
And the girls who straight treat me like a dog until the day I die
(finding out true love is blind)

Ah chocolate girl, you're looking like something I want
Ah and your little Asian friend well she can come if she wants
I want all the self conscious girls who try to hide who they are with makeup
You know it's the girl with a frown with the tight pants I really want to shake up

The title track, "Illegal Tender", is even better than FoTLiB.

Look for their debut album, The Best Little Secrets Are Kept, on March 22nd. I'm certainly excited to hear more from these guys.

Go to their website and listen to "God Killed The Queen." Awesome.

They're a good band. Saw them live once and picked up a CDR album they were selling. Sounds like a 2nd-rate White Stripes, which is good.

They Next.Big.Indie.Unpopular.Popular.Underproduced.Stylish.Good Music Lovers Band.

I'm mildly impressed from the single I heard but probably not enough to check out anything else by them.

On ITunes all the songs from the EP are on Illegal Tender. I bought the ep about 4 days before the LP came out. I didn't know the LP came out. So I was kinda pissed that I bought the EP, and when you go to buy the rest of the songs you don't have on the LP, 2 of the songs are "album only." But I think the best two songs are God Killed the Queen and Ball of Twine.

Some love for the album cover.

What's is that people are arguing as to whether or not these guys are British. (WTF). I can't argue against an album where every song is about hittin' it. It might be repetitive, but damnit, don't you people like hittin' it?

Edit to add: Favorite song is Pledge of Allegiance, although I like them all.

Also, if you put the album on repeat (I have), the end of the last song and the beginning of the first song match up exactly.

they played at hfstival. i think i remeber them saying they were originally from new york. (and the part that goes "wind you up, and make me crawl to you..." was done by a man, the keyboard player)

I still haven't heard anything. I've seen several reviews that were less than pleased with the cd.

man, this song is on MVP Baseball 2005. It gets into your head VERY quickly.

Since I play these sports games, i always end up buying the cd of some of the bands on the games' soundtracks.

MVP Baseball 2005 - First Time I heard "Honest Mistake" by The Bravery. Went and got the cd. Maybe I'll need to get this one, too.

Madden Football has been notorious for increasing the popularity of songs. Didn't Green Day officially release their first single on madden? anyway, i picked up a few cds because i liked the songs on madden. Audiovent, OK Go...

but i digress. this song is addictive.

They're from San Diego. If I remember correctly, some of the guys used to be in a band called Convoy.
