What movie did Robby Benson play a Blind Guy?

What was that movie where Robby Benson played a blind guy? I seem to recall 2 specific scenes. One where his girlfriend is teaching him to drive. And another where a little girl he was babysitting falls into the pool while he's on the phone and he is desperalty searching for her in the pool. Keep in mind he is blind.

I checked his BIO in IMDB.com but I can't seem to find the movie I'm thinking of. I thought it would have been made in the 80's.

Please help.

I realize your are looking for RB being blind, but just wanna make sure you don't have some confusion or it might jog some other memory. The gal in Ice Castles that he was in went blind.

Well he used some speed in One on One when he played a college basketball player but he wasn't a junkie. I'm sure the movie I'm thinking of he played a blind guy.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of "Death Be Not Proud," where he was a kid who had brain cancer?

The Death of Ritchie which was a TV movie.

It's not Ode to Billy Joe. Here is the movie description. "Based on a 1967 hit song. A seventeen-year-old boy is seduced into a homosexual act. His guilt over the incident drives him to commit suicide by jumping off the Tallahatchie Bridge, leaving his girlfriend behind."

Robby Benson was older in the movie I'm thinking of. God this is friggin killing me. What is this movie?

Have you considered it isn't Robbie Benson you are thinking of, since it doesn't seem to be any of the movies in his bio?

Searching through the IMDB, I've found Butterflies Are Free and To Race the Wind as possible movies that you are thinking of.

Yes I have considered that but I have specific memories of 2 scenes. I guess it's possible my mind is playing tricks I'm sure the 2 scenes are from the same movie about a young blind man.

One where his girlfriend is teaching him to drive.
And another where a little girl he was babysitting falls into the pool while he's on the phone and he is desperalty searching for her in the pool.

Ring any bells?

I haven't seen any of these movies, I'm just presenting possibilities. A young Robbie Benson would probably look a lot like a young Steve Guttenberg, so that's why I'm asking if you are misremembering.

Oh may God. I figured it out. The movie was "If You Could See What I Hear" starring Marc Singer. Here's a pic of him from IMDB. Of course he's a little older in the pic.

The only thing I can think of is that Singer was in The Beastmaster, and Benson was the voice of the beast in Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Marc Singer was in V, while Robbie Benson once read V For Vendetta.
