Maybe you should hav e listened to all the bad reviews and negative word of mouth on this one. It's no secret a lot of people, inclduing M. Night fans, didn't like this movie.

In an effort to help you out, a piece of advice: Don't rent "Catwoman" or "Van Helsing" either.

I didnt see it (and it seems that I should consider myself lucky) but the WORST movie of all time? Worse than Battlefield Earth? Worse than SuperBabies? Worse than Pluto Nash, "Manos" the Hands of Fate, and Police Academy 7: Assignment Moscow?

Wow. That's saying something.

Not far from the truth man. After awhile in the movie, I started fast-forwarding to the woods scenes... which seemed to be the only ones worth watching. The big

rat
looked pretty cool...

but it didn't even matter because it was just that dumb guy in a suit.
I actually watched through the full ending, which was kind of interesting, but is all it really had going for it. I'm glad I didn't spend my time watching the full movie... which is less to say than others.

I'm a huge fan of Signs, by the way.

Far from the worst of all time. I thought it was ok... not nearly as good as Sixth Sense or Unbreakable.

Worst movie of all time?

Get real .... see some more movies ..... go through the 100 movies that have won Golden Turkey awards ... catch up on some recent Razzie winners ...

I didn't like The Village but calling it the "worst movie of all time is .. well ... the worst "criticism" posted recently.

Anyone who thinks this was a bad movie didn't get it. --Me on my ultra-snob days

Seriously, this movie is pretty good, not as good as Sixth Sense or Unbreakable but still a very well done movie.

I enjoyed this until the big reveal. I wish they would have just continued on with the story line
Spoiler:
of the monsters in the forrest, only have it so the monsters were real. And then have a men vs monsters war at the end.

This shamalayan is a one trick pony if you ask me...

I enjoyed The Village, for what it's worth. I just didn't like M Night's acting and monologue explaining the whole thing... It just seemed like it was a "Let's just throw in this part because audiences are stupid!" kinda thing

Original poster wants someone to give him a reason why they liked it or why the movie was in their opinion good? That other thread has 323 post in it. You figure that the OP would atleast find one or two posters there that might be able to answer him.

My post from the other thread on this subject . . .

Plus, while the high-level aspect of the final twist was really obvious, I thought that the details of how it was going to play out weren't.

I also think that the cinematography was really nice. There were bunch of scenes that I thought were beautifully done (a couple of scenes in the woods, some of the outside town shots, "the" conversation between Lucius and Noah, etc.).

Plus, Adrian Brody did a great job and Bryce Dallas Howard is a bit of a hottie.

SPOILERS

Also from the other thread, but I thought Adrian Brody did a bad job, just way over the top to the point of unbelievable. Now Bryce Dallas Howard did a very good job, even though some situations she was in was unbelievable (basically running through a forest while blind and not hitting a tree).

For that matter, I never figured out why the adults would send a blind girl on a journey where the directions were basically "go through the woods for half a day, then turn right". She's friggin blind people, just get off your ass and go get the damn medicine yourself!

Oh well. It wasn't a horrible movie, just not a good one. It would have made a really good episode of The Outer Limits or The Twilight Zone, but there was too little beef to it to make it a full movie.

As for the acting, I really did like all of the performances other than Adrian Brody. I also liked Phoenix' acting, I hope he is in more movies.

Spoiler:
Well, there were supposed to be two people with her, but they both got scared and turned back. Not that it makes it a real smart move to send a blind girl overall, but it does explain it and make it a little more believable.

A few other thoughts on why the elders didn't go and why they sent her:

1) They all had pledged to never go back . . . I'm thinking that part of the reason was that they might be tempted by things in their old world.

2) She was sent because they trusted her maturity/understanding/whatever and recognized that she could be trusted with the secret of the village and . . . I'm guessing . . . would, likely, end up being an elder herself someday and would end up knowing all of this info sooner or later.

3) As a blind person, she wouldn't be tempted by anything that she "saw" out there.

Just some thoughts . . .

I for one did not like this movie, and was seriously disapointed with it.

But worst movie of all time? Questioning why people liked it?

I mean, come on, even though I too thought it was pointless and found the "twists" to be uninteresting and a complete killer of the build up M Night had made, one cannot deny some striking cinematography, a beautiful score, some wonderful acting, and great set design. And, also, I think the build up in the first half of the movie is quite effective, which is, well, the reason I so disliked the movie. Because it built up so well, and then poof, like a wall of bricks crushed my enjoyment that M Night had built up so well in the first half. Simply because I did not like what this story was really about.

But, on the other hand, I can fullly understand why people did like it. And watching it a second time, knowing full well what the deal was, I was able to enjoy the parts of it that were good. If anything, Bryce Dallas Howard gives a wonderful performance.

It's not that bad. From a production standpoint, it's excellent. It's just the wonky story and annoying twist that really bugs people. But it's hardly plagued with inane dialogue, idiotic acting, horrible music, bad cinematogrpahy, or other things that some other bad movies have. It's a bad movie in the sense that it completely fails in what it's trying to do (imo).

I'd say it's one of the most disapointing movies I've seen, but not necessarily bad across the board like some other films. It's just a different type of bad then say, Catwoman or House of the Dead.
