I think I've been spoiled by companies that do great sculpts, like Sideshow for example. I've seen the Scarface figures in person, and think they are teh suck.

I have one (the one in the Hawaiian shirt). They look more like caricatures more than anything.

Something that bugs the shit out of me with the figure, is why does the money he comes with have martians on it?

Coming to an episode of MTV Cribs near you.

The mini bust looks ok. At first I hated the look of those figures, but the more I look at them, the more I think they are ok.

The Family Guy figures are cool, and the Hellboy stuff is pretty decent as well. Wonder why these are so retarded looking?

My question is if there's really a need for a exact scan image of scarface to appear on a toy? I mean I can understand why they went this route. Make them like caricatures. I don't need him interacting with my hellboy or bender figures.

I think they're just plain silly. And that's not what Scarface is about, really.

Pre-McFarlane: no. As it is, though, I don't see how Scarface figures are any different from other figures based on Kill Bill, Resevoir Dogs, The Matrix, etc..

Pre-McFarlane. Sorry, but for all the amount of love McFarlane get's his toys are worthless plastic statues that smell funky and get outdated quickly.

There is a style to the molding of the scarface figures. They are suppose to look like that. They weren't ever going for the realistic perfect real scan look. I can dig it for what it is. All the figures go through different sculptures and designs. I like these for what they are. Mezco got a lot of the sculptures from McFarlance and I like that they are not including more movement and joints to the figures.

Lets look at the two different HellBoy figures:

See the difference between the two versions. I mean I like the first, but the second has it's own character behind it.

same shit with Scarface. Do I want an exact sculpture of Al?

I like the look of the figure. I mean they make it not to realistic without making it extremely goofy. Either way they are selling so it doesn't matter. But I don't see how it's a slap in the face to the movie.

1) I use pre-McFarlane because regardless of any hype that his company does or does not live up to, I feel that he has broadened the "acceptibility" of making and buying movie figures.

2) Yes, they're obviously stylized. Which is to say that other figures, realistic figures, aren't? A lot of times people forget that being "realistic" is also a style.

3) I'm surprised they are selling so well (if indeed they are) because while I don't consider the figures a slap in the face, I don't think they fit in well with the themes of the movie.

So it goes.

Yes, hah, I'll admit, those others ones are better. The gun-figure's face looks like the Mouth of Sauron.
