Kiki's Delivery Service - Does a place this nice actually exist?
If you've ever seen the anime Kiki's Delivery Service, then you know it's set in the most charming seaside European town ever put to celluloid. Does anyone know if it was based on a real town? I'd love to visit it or a town like it someday. I'm guessing it's Italian, but I haven't seen anything so beautiful before.

I'm sure it's an amalgamation of many different cities. You're not going to find any places that actually look like that, but you can visit different european cities and see where those influences came from. But, still, the movie city is much nicer than any real place you're going to find, at least if you're talking about cities that big.

I googled it a bit, and it turns out the town is an amalgamation of several towns, but a lot of it is based straight off of the port town of Visby in the Baltic Sea. If you look at the photos, it does look a LOT like the town in the film! It's a medieval walled city and is a holiday destination for Swedes.

Miyazaki made the town an amalgamation of many, but he was especially impressed with San Francisco and Stockholm. The movie takes place in an alternate universe in which World War II never happened. Also bunnies and duckies.
