Movies recorded in Dolby Digital Plus

I realize it isn't fully released yet but I was wondering if any manufacturers said they would support upgrades for DDP. I'm ready to buy a new preamp but I don't want it to be obsolete the same year I buy it.

From what I've read, DD Plus is still some time away. It'll probably only be in high-end equipment when it first debuts, much like Dolby Digital EX 6.1, and I don't believe it's even going to really be on the current DVD format. Plus probably won't be a big deal for another few years, or at least until BluRay and HD-DVD have a clear winner.

Someday we might get to the point of uncompressed audio. Wouldn't that be nice.

Uncompressed audio would be a waste of bits. Why not compress with a lossless codec and get more onto the media?

That's been around for years. It's called analog.

Or PCM audio, which is a part of the DVD standard and appears on a number of DVDs.

That is likely to happen anyway of you are constantly chasing future technology.

If you want to enjoy now, buy something. Worry about new stuff when it is actually there and there is media to play on it.
