Star Trek movies question

Hi. I'm starting to pick up the collector edition Star Trek movies and had a couple of questions.. Star Trek the Movie, is it suppose to start playing the movie right away without going to the main menu first? What's up with the 1 1/2 mins of stars going by?

Also, Star Trek 6 Undiscovered Country, is it suppose to have an insert or booklette?
Thanks

No, Star Trek VI does not come with a book/insert. Nor does/will any of the subsequent releases.

Just like most DVD's as of late...

That's the opening overture. It's supposed to be there, although it's absent from some versions.

From IGN:
Goldsmith's score is another thing I love about the film. His overture (which is included in this edition) is a Sci-Fi music classic, and the theme music for the film has been forever engraved into the minds of Star Trek fans as it was re-used as the theme to Star Trek: The Next Generation.
And from an article about the score (http://www.moviewave.net/titles/star...n_picture.html):
Before the movie started, it featured a full, three-minute musical overture - hearkening back to the golden age, it was actually the last ever movie to feature such a wonderful opportunity for the composer. Goldsmith chose to present "Ilia's Theme", his beautiful, longing theme of love and regret, culminating in the briefest of hints of his Star Trek march
And it looks like this is one of those discs that goes straight to the movie. You can bring up a menu screen, however.

It really pisses me off that Paramount doesn't have booklets anymore, it just screams CHEAP to me

It's not just Paramount, MGM which used to have the best 8 page booklets did away with those ages ago. It really pisses me off now when I get a DVD open it up and the only thing in the case is the disc. As you said it screams CHEAP!

What really screams cheap to me are the studios that have done away with booklets or inserts and instead fills the DVD cases with advertising inserts for other films or products.

I know this is an old gripe but I can't believe they didn't finish the star trek series out with inserts. At the very least they could have finished the original crew movie collection.

Also, what kind of cases did they use? The plastic on them isn't very good and wrinkles a lot.

As others have said, that's the overture, but the stars were not there in the theatrical release (some theaters didn't show the overture at all). There, the music played over a black screen. The overture (without the stars) was also included on some video and laserdisc releases.

I also have a question. Star Trek: First Contact was announced to have a DTS track and the box for Generations also states a DTS track. Does Generations actually have a DTS track, I haven't gotten a chance to check mine yet.

And also, why didn't the first six films have a DTS track?

Yes, Generations really has a DTS track. The previous 6 movies don't because Paramount has been spotty in their support for DTS.

Nope not the one I picked up. It had a case where 2 disks overlapped one another. Anyone else get this?

I sure didn't, but I bought the boxed set with the first six two disc films.

Why was part 6 released in a black two disc AND a white two disc?
