Please help me with a title to a movie from long ago?

I've got myself a pretty nice dvd collection, but realized that I didn't really have any of the old classics. My classics go back as far as Jaws and, ok, I have It's A Wonderful Life and The Wizard of Oz which are really old, but not the kind of classics I want to start to see.

Movies like North By Northwest, Vertigo, Casablanca, Some Like it Hot and films like that. I've seen not one of those films and other films from that era.

I've been reading a lot about those movies and I can't wait to start picking them up, but I remembered hearing about a film in a discussion some time ago about an old movie where a woman is blind in an apartment and someone is trying to kill her or something. I don't know what it's called and was hoping from some help from the smart people here.

Since I don't know what it's called, I haven't been able to read up on it, so I'm not sure it's considered a classic or even a very good film, but they way I remember people talking about it, I sure thought they thought it was and I didn't want to start adding these great classics without finding out what movie it was.

If anyone knows, please tell me. Thank you.

Sounds like WAIT UNTIL DARK (1967) with Audrey Hepburn.

It's probably Wait Until Dark, but it could also be the far superior See No Evil, which is set on a vast estate. Stretching it a little, since the woman in this is not blind but physically disabled, it could be Sorry, Wrong Number (1948).

Also, you should pick up my favorite old time classic, Harvey.

Pookas rule. I won a beer from an Irishman at a bar, once, knowing that.

Check out the AFI top 100. Most of the older ones in the top 50 are pretty good bets if you are looking to expand more into older movies.
