saw the bible from the Drake Hotel, how did he know jim phelps (jon voight) was alive and had betrayed them. i know jim phelps mentioned he had stayed at the drake hotel but how did that fact lead ethan hunt to this conclusion?
I'll try to answer, but it's been awhile since I watched it.

Phelps had supposedly come to Prague directly from Chicago while the rest of the team was on another assignment. When Ethan saw the bible in London was from The Drake, he knew Jim had been in London after Chicago. Then Jim tried to pin it all on Kittridge, which wasn't a very plausible explanation. Plus the whole Max persona hinged on the bible verse Job 3:14, which linked Max to the bible which was linked to Jim Phelps.
so the point that the Bible was in London (I didn't realize they were there, I thought they were in Prague the whole time), shows that Phelps was also in London. Thanks for the help. It's still not that clear for me. oh well, I'll watch it again
