I mean come on. All of the material is already there on Laserdisc, just port it over to DVD! God, I want this so much! I mean every piece of shit from Universal get's 47 releases, but we can't get one SE of a cult movie whose director has gone on to create one of the most popular movies ever! I mean, c'mon they could really cash in on this and give fans what they want! AHHH!!!

Agreed. I have heard of the laserdisc edition with all the extra footage but have never seen it. I never had a laserdisc player. I really would love to see a DVD release!

Here's a review of the LD that has the Extended Cut and a 4.5 hour (!) Documentary!

Since I bought the first DVD release a couple weeks ago there should be an announcement shortly
I saw a used copy with the good cover so I had to nab it. The audio/video quality was surprisingly good. Yeah, bring on an SE!

Yeah the A/V on the current disc is top notch, even against some of the newer DVD's, given that this was a pretty old release.
I envy you and your DVD with the cool cover. I, unfortunately didn't buy that one when it was out, by the time I bought mine, it had the butt-ugly version with the two ghosts lookin like they're about to rape poor Michael J. Fox.

I downloaded a copy on dvd of the Dir Cut as I was sick of waiting! and I own the real dvd of the normal edit. So they dont really loose out cash wise as I own the Vid, Laserdisc (I dont have a LD player mind you ) and the DVD, so its not as if I havent give them loads of cash!

It's actually 4 1/2 hours total yet with broken up sections focusing on different aspects of the film. I've also read the review of the Director's Cut Signature Collection laserdisc and all Universal needs to do when they port it over to DVD is make the film anamorphic with obviously a better transfer and have it on 3 discs as Josh implied.
I also agree with Matthew's guess of releasing the Extended Edition to coinside with King Kong's release, either theatrically or on DVD.

Anyway, I suspect that they'll give it the treatment it deserves on the 10th anniversary -- 2006 -- when 'King Kong' hits DVD as well.

Anyway, give me this stuff already. I'm hoping the Kong thing will lead to this DVD, as it is Universal again.
