Tough question!

I'd say Trompe Le Monde.

Not many will agree with you, but they're all great.

How to choose between Surfer Rosa and Doolittle... Got go with Doolittle because it introduced me to them.

Surfer Rosa. The Pixies mesh perfectly with Albini. Also, Gigantic is the greatest Pixies song.

Trompe Le Monde is a brilliant album and gets my vote.

Dolittle is a better collection of singles, and my favorite Pixies songs are on Surfer Rosa and Bossanova, but Trompe Le Monde is high art.

Not an Albini fan. For me, "Doolittle" is easily their best.

I love them all, but Bossanova is probably my favorite.

I chose Surfer Rosa. Doolittle was a close second.

IMHO, Trompe Le Monde is the only Pixies lp that isn't a perfectly formed cohesive statement. It has its share of great songs but for me it seemed like the first album from the band that seemed unsure of where it was going.

surfer rosa is the most seminal, imho. i can't really stand the pixies sans kim deal, so no trompe le monde really makes it to my stereo. come on pilgrim is hillarious. if only it were full length. and doolittle is the most accessible.

i'm really torn, but i usually want to throw on surfer rosa first.

Let's not forget the brilliance that is Come On, Pilgrim!

Caribooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

ETA: Hollowgen, you know that the Purple tape (AKA "Pixies" the CD) is the rest of the Pilgrim session, right?

Tromple Le Monde, by far.

Then Bossanova, then Doolittle.

I do not really like Surfer Rosa

For me they got much better with each release.

Surfer Rosa was my intro to them several years ago (I'm only 20) and it is still my favorite. Best thing is that I got to see them back in October! YAY Me!

Surfer Rosa (w/ Doolittle a close second). i knew a girl who looked like the cover model - except w/ smaller uh... personalities.
Funny this thread came up when it did, i recently made an .mp3 disc of the albums and have been playing the hell out of it in my car.

The Pixies are my favorite band of all-time. Surfer Rosa is their best album. Their most cohesive work. Their most valid musical statement. Their masterpiece. End of story.

My favorite is the import I had of Come On Pilgrim/Surfa Rosa together. Because of this it is so hard for me to split these 2 up. I would have to give the nod to Surfa Rosa, only because it is full length, then Come On and followed closely by Doolittle, Bossanova and Trompe.

Have you guy's picked up Frank Black Francis? It's a 2 CD set he put out recently where the first disc is acoustic demos he did the night before the Come On Pilgrim session to give the producer a sense of the songs. The second disc is a weird electronic collection of new versions of lots of the old songs Frank did with a couple of UK collaborators last year. Obviously it's not meant to replace the originals but it's really cool to hear your favorite Pixies songs reinterpreted by the guy who wrote them. Well worth picking up.

All the reviews I read of it said it was awful.

All the reviews I read said it was worth listening to for fans, but actually listening to it has convinced me that it's cool.

Like I said, it's not meant to replace anything, but it's a cool idea and I think big time Pixies/FB fans will enjoy it.
