Retro Game Challenge #22 (12/26-1/2)

Week 22 is over!
  1. [*]
  2. [*]
  3. [*]
  4. [*]
  5. [*]
So far we have only been using MAME to play the games, but that can change, if the winner so chooses.
I am going to host the current ROMs and list of all the past winners and high scores here.
New to MAME? Feel free to ask questions here or read the tutorials

The Games:
(click the titles for info and how to play)

Jump Bug - Score to beat: hardcore 60900

Lady Bug - Score to beat: devilshalo 100220

Pengo (set 1 rev c) - Score to beat: devilshalo 58120

The Prize:
Whoever gets the high score for one of the games picks the next game that replaces it, so we should always have 3 to choose from. You also get your name engraved permanently etched onto this eye catching trophy with a genuine Sharpie!

Last Week's Winners:

Jeez, maybe you were right about the holiday hangover.

You don't have to worry about a sweep from me this week no matter how slow it gets. I doubt I'd ever catch that Pengo score by the end of the week. I suck at that game. I probably suck at these two also, but I won't know til I see some other scores. I don't really get the scoring system on Ladybug.

This is vacation week for me thus I plan to use my time to try and finish my cocktail cabinet. I'll get to the games later this week but I too know I can't beat that Pengo score. I've always sucked at that game.

You should start a thread to show off your cabinet when you finish it, or at least put a link to your web site in your sig.

Apparently I'm the only one who likes Jump Bug

I don't have the ambition to even try to continue the other two. Pengo just pisses me off.

There's a couple of ways to tackle Pengo. Either eliminate the enemy as fast as you can or line up the boxes. It's either one or the other. Depending on how fast you can line up the boxes you can get up to 10000 bonus points.

Well, thanks for trying to help, but I knew that and it still doesn't prevent me from sucking. Pengo was one of the first five games in mame, so I played it plenty back around that time. Those stupid penguins never walk in front of the block you want them too.

Yeah, you better watch your back! I'm getting better!

Usually, you make your decision about which you're going to do right at the get go. I used to play this in the arcade all the time, don't ask me why because it's a frustrating game.

At least I know I don't have to play Lady Bug anymore. It's not quite as frustrating as Pengo, but every now and then when you hit the wrong door, or don't look in front of you... #@*!

Finally got past level 2! What a pain in the ass that was!

OK, I have no chance in hell of beating any of those scores so I've got to make a request...please, please, please, whoever wins, pick something a little less repetitive These games are killing me. I don't mind if the game repeats after a while, but every level looks almost the same (just with bad guys sped up a bit).

But on Jump Bug you go underwater in level 2 and on top of the water in level 3

It's those repetetive levels in the other two games that is keeping me from playing them... yeah, that's it, repetetive levels.

Damn you, you must have had that score saved.
Those are some impressive scores with a keyboard.

I think it's actually easier with the keyboard. I keep getting very close to beating that 7th level. Harder to type now that my right hand is a permanent claw from this game
