DVDs that mention DVDtalk?

I recently picked up "Wire in the Blood" and noticed on the front it mentions "A top notch psychological thriller - DVD Talk" I believe we were also cited in the Star Wars esp 2 commerical IIRC. Does anyone know of any other DVDs that have quotes from DVDtalk? Has it been mentioned in any commentaries or supplemental materials yet? Just curious...

We were quoted on the covers for "Blue Remains" and "ALICE: Her Past is the Future", two CGI anime films from Artsmagic. It wasn't me that provided the quote, though...I didn't find them overly impressive.

Other titles that come to mind are the sci-fi DVD "Lexx" and even the Special Edition of "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" (well, Roger Ebert mentions our own DVD Savant, Glenn Erickson, in his essay). Speaking of Savant, he also provided an audio commentary for "Gun Crazy". Here's the review, if you're interested:

Interesting thread, by the way.

Hmmm, I reviewed that one too. Unless it's someone else's quote from this site, I'll assume my check's in the mail...

For a couple of years, Marengo Films placed a quote of mine on the front of their website. (I'm pretty sure it's gone as of their latest revamp, though...)

They actually took the quote quite a bit out of context... to make it seem that I was saying that *all* of their DVDs were a great value, rather than the one particular one I was reviewing.

I was the one quoted on Wire in the Blood. I've also had quotes on Last Exile (Volume 3 I believe) and the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Essentials collection. (That one actually used my name!)

Wasn't DVDTalk mentioned in the Star Wars advertising for either Episode I or II?

You'd think they would've mentioned DVDTalk when they released Good Burger

Nope, never heard of the film either, but hey, this place says it's pure movie magic!

Yeah it was only in the TV ads and it said something like "Best Disney film ...." I can't remember the whole line. Maybe someone with a saved Tivo recording from back then could check it out.

I remember a radio spot mention us when Ep 2 came out. It was something about how the sound was so great.

I just had to see how that quote was used in the review...

The "Humongous Blowout Bash" is worth the price of admission alone. I mean honestly, how can you not enjoy a movie that features two roosters dancing to a samba version of The Blue Danube? Now reread that last sentence and picture it in your head; we’re not talking animated roosters – two live roosters. Pure movie magic.

As the author of the "pure movie magic" line, I can only say this: voluptuous latina women popping their tops off at a moment's notice and bouncing and gyrating madly do not a quality movie make... no wait, yes they do.

Out of curiousity, has anyone who was quoted here been asked in advance if the quote was permitted? Anyone upset because they weren't asked?

Permission isn't needed to quote a phrase from a review. If studios asked every reviewer for permission before they used a quote, they'd have no time left over to put their ads and covers together. If someone doesn't want to be quoted, they shouldn't be publishing reviews.

I found a copy of Tapeheads at Wal-Mart for 6.88, picked it up. Got home looked at the cover a little closer. Low and behold another endorsement from DVDTalk.

djtoell is right, they don't have to ask to quote us, and we don't have to ask to quote from a film.

I have never been asked, and I don't mind, though I would like it if they informed me (or Geoff) after the fact, just so I can keep track. The MST Essentials collection had been out for a while when an old friend of mine called me to congratulate me about the quote. I didn't even know it was there.

I've wondered for some time now, how does one become a DVD talk reviewer?
