Is Season Six of The Sopranos the Final Season?

I'm watching the fifth season now on HBO for the first time, so please no spoilers. Anyone know, though, if season six will be the last? I've just become a fan of the show through the HBO marathon of all the seasons.

And, also, does anyone know when the show will return?

Thanks.

I bought a used retail copy of season 1 on E-Bay blindly because I don't have cable. I was hooked and bought seasons 2-5 also. I do like the mob type movies especially base on true stories such a Murder Machine (book), Gotti (book and movie), Donnie Brasco, Casino and Goodfellas etc...

the fifth season of The Sopranos will be released in the fourth quarter of 2005, shortly before that series returns for a sixth season in early 2006.

In answer to your question, yes it will be the last. It'll also (reportedly) be shorter than the others (ten episodes or so, but that could change).

Season 6 is supposed to be the last season, but James Gandolfini was recently interviewed and he said that David Chase may be interested in another season. I don't think S6 has even been written yet, so any speculation about S7 is pointless. We still have more than a year before new episodes air. Stupid HBO seasons.

the reruns on HBO are making me want to pull out my season sets again and start with episode one. i can't wait for season 5 to be released on dvd. at the time it aired i didn't have HBO so i've only seen downloaded copies on my compy and, as many of you know, that leaves something to be desired.

Edie was on a talk show and said they start filming in March/April and as far as she knows, season six is the last.

Of course, the "I hope not cuz we have a great time on the set" line was directly after..

As Charlie said, we won't know for a while..
