Which DVD shoud I get?

I am considering my final DVD purchase of the holiday year for my best friend, and I can't decide on "Cast Away- 2 Disc Set" or "Mystic River- 3 Disc Set". Right now I am leaning towards "Cast Away", as anyone care to through their 2 cents in? Does Best Buy even sell the 2-Disc Cast Away, because I didn't even see it last time I went shopping.

I hope this isn't shitting on the thread, but you know your friend better than we do. I can't speak for either of the DVDs, I'm sure they are fine purchases. But you should be the one that ultimately decides on which one it will be. You know him best.

Get Cast Away. Overall, it's a superior DVD to the Mystic River package. That and I liked Cast Away more and it has much more rewatchability (in my opinion) than Mystic River (which I also really liked). However, Cast Away has some great supplements and still...to this day... one of the best DTS soundtracks ever. Everything about the DTS on this disc is amazing, and the crash sequence on it is perfect.

Out of those two (which I should point out I have no plans to buy either ever), probably cast away.

Another vote for Cast Away. I liked the movie quite a bit. I wasn't crazy about Mystic River.

Cast Away (2 disk). I found mine at a CD Warehouse for $2. The clerk even took a double take when I went to buy it.

Based on the recommendations I guess it is pretty easy to see which one you should get.

FWIW: I am planning on getting both dvds in the near future but Cast Away is higher on my want list.

Mystic River. Sean Penn + Tim Robbins + Kevin Bacon > Tom Hanks any day.

I would go further:

Sean Penn > Tom Hanks
Tim Robbins > Tom Hanks
Kevin Bacon > Tom Hanks

You should have just taken your buddy to the Boys II men concert. That's a x-mas gift for anyone!

I think both films are sort of bad for gifts. Mystic river is just to much of a downer and Cast away can't really be seen twice. Then again, we don't know your buddy so it's a tough choice to ask us what he wants.

I don't know why you even respond to anything O do jack. I don't even read what you say cause its just you putting your smug additude out there. It gets old after awhile.

Why the hell would you say that. I probably have seen mine about 5 times which is more times than 95% of my 500 dvd's. I also use the plane crash scene as a demo to friends for my home entertainment system.

I'm sure half the movies you own I could say are not worth watching more than once too.

Get Cast Away !

Both movies are OK (not great, in my mind) but Cast Away is the beter DVD and I would think has more rewatch potential.

Cast Away has like an hour of no one talking. If your friend doesn't have a short attention spand then get Cast Away. I'd go with Mystic River hands down, a much better movie.
