That's a long want list. What I get from your want list is that you do not have very many dvds. Perhaps you should buy more and want less?

I'm sure you'll get those in no time. Once you start buying, you can't stop.

Looks like a quick scan through Blockbuster.

It might be a good idea to try out some movies that wouldn't be considered quite so mainstream.

I have a son about your age and I've seen his taste change as he was introduced to a wider variety of movies that you don't see announced on the New Releases sign at Blockbuster. I'll go through a list of lesser-known movies he's seen and enjoyed to get some suggestions. I'm sure other people here can also offer good suggestions.

Knowing how personal taste can change, and having seen it with myself as well when introduced to really good movies, I would be a little careful of buying or asking for all those movies instead of just renting them.

Pick a genre you already like (something like action or horror) and then start trying out some non-mainstream titles. For instance if you like horror take a look at Cube and Session 9 or if you like action take a dip into Hong Kong movies. Read through some of the threads in the recommendations forum (or the Int'l for the HK ones). Another good source I've found for movies occasionally are the commentaries on other movies, esp the more "indy" ones. They'll tell you who influenced them, then go look up those titles. Just some suggestions to get you started.

Thanks, My favorite kinds of movies are Comedys, Action would come next. What are some comedy titles that wouldnt be in a Blockbuster, or Hollywood Video, and would it be worth it to buy them just risking that ill like them?

collect what you like and not what other people think is good. it's no fun collecting movies if you end up with a bunch of movies your not going to ever watch again.

Well, I can say honestly, that I have only exactly 20 of those listed. I see very little epic-type movies in that list. I see lots of comedy in that list. I hate comedy. I'd rather huff gasoline than to sit through a comedy. I wouldn't spend one dime to buy a comedy DVD. (Not enuff 'splosions, if you know what I mean.)

For an alternative DVD list, check out my collection from the link below.

I own three of the titles on your wish list.....Big Lebowski, Phone Booth, and Pulp Fiction. Those titles are not really my style. Good luck with your collection, though.

Almost 4,000 DVDs and no Hard Boiled (John Woo)? No action film collection worth it's salt exists without that one.

Don't forget to wait until January 25 to get BTTF: it will be much cheaper, and you should be able to get the corrected version (look for V2 on the box).

Keep in mind that some of those titles have more than one edition. For example, the old fullscreen-only version of A Christmas Story is still out there. Make sure you get the special edition.

Add Good Burger to your list.

Not really, it just seems like it because he buys so much. If he bought everything, he'd have a whole lot more--he's not even up to Austin levels.

Unfortunately that's one of the weak points in my collection... I don't have too many comedies as I'm not into what usually passes for humor these days. Some that you may want to look into (depending on whether or not you are into "dark comedies"):

Clay Pigeons
Clue
Free Enterprise (although if you aren't a sci-fi fan it might not click for you)
Heathers
Murder By Death
Parents (OOP though I believe)
The Ref
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (esp if you know anything about Hamlet)
Shallow Grave
So I Married an Axe Murderer
Tapeheads

If you like older/B&W movies
Arsenic and Old Lace
Marx Brother's films (esp Duck Soup & Day at the Races)

Mod note: Since this is really a recommendation thread I"m moving it to the appropriate forum
