Deciding between Tube HDTV vs. EDTV (Under 2000)
I am trying to decide what tv to get. I currently have a Samsung 27" HDTV, but I would really like to upgrade to 16:9. I cant spend over 2000 (actually I was hoping to keep it around 1500).
I do not think I would be happy with a rear projection set (ive heard lots of complaints reguarding the angle you sit). So my only options seem to be a 34" tube HDTV or a plasma EDTV.
I will primarily be using the tv for DVDs and xbox. Size and weight are not a big concern for me.
Opinions?

There is no reason to get a TV that will be obsolete in under 2 years (EDTV). I would say it's practically obsolete now. The ONLY reason I could see going for EDTV is that you HAVE to have plasma and can't afford the HDTV price point.
Honestly if you are looking at 34", go with the direct view Sony. It's probably the BEST tv in a direct view HDTV.
