They sure are releasing this trailer late. I remember seeing the Mystic River teaser months before it hit, and they are just putting out this trailer when the film comes out in a few weeks nationally.

This does look good, and if the Ebert & Roeper reviews are any indication, it should rack up the nominations come January.

No kidding, Ebert and Roeper were highly receptive to this film and its Oscar prospects.

Looks good, but do some people actually read (and think about) those nonsensical tag lines they put in the trailers?

"Beyond her dreams... there is a feeling"
"Beyond hope... there is a memory"

I guess there was no room for "Beyond friendship... there is understanding" or "Beyond fate... there is destiny".

I saw the trailer theatrically and wasn't impressed. . .until the words "screenplay by Paul Haggis". Now, I'll be there.

Did that trailer remind anyone of The Next Karate Kid?

Can't say I was overly impressed with the trailer, but I saw it after catching the Ebert-Roeper reviews, and I imagine they're trying to market it to people who might not be enticed by a character-driven movie.

This thread is the first I've ever even heard of this film. Here are my main thoughts on it:

1) When I saw the thread, and clicked on it, I thought I was in store for a true pile of feces. All I could think about in terms of what the plot could possibly be about, based only on the title, is a film built around the same idea that the TV show The Six Million Dollar Man was about:

We can rebuild the child.

We have the technology.

We have the capability to make the world's first Bionic baby.

________ _________ will be that baby.

Better than he was before.

Better . . . stronger . . . cuter.

2) After actually watching the trailer, and since this isn't going to something as horrible as "Son of the Mask", I got into it. Heck, I'll go see this one, it looks good to me.

Like was said before, it reminds me of The Next Karate Kid...only in Academy Award Winning form.

That's exactly what I thought I thought it was along the lines of son of mask or baby genuises 2.

[troll]Oh no, its PG-13!!!!!! What were thinking???? They really wanted to make money on this since Rs don't sell as many tickets!!!!!! This movie's gonna suck!!!![/troll]

... now that I've got that out of my system, it looks pretty good.

... but I can't keep The Next Karate Kid outta my head while watching the trailer.

Good to see Hilary Swank get another good role finally. That Necklace movie looked like a too-obvious ploy to do another 'important' role, whereas The Core was just cheese. She was pretty good in The Gift and Insomniac, but she was stuck in the background of each and overshadowed by the showier stuff for Williams, Pacino, Blanchett, etc.

So I guess this movie will most likely focus on Eastwood, Swank, and Freeman and not Swank kickin some ass? What kind of a movie is this?!

In all honesty, I couldn't really tell much about the movie from the previews, and it didn't impress me that much. Then again, none of the previews for Eastwood's movies have ever really impressed me, yet they wind up being good films, so this might be a good thing.

This is the film I am most looking forward to seeing. Roger Ebert calls it the best film of the year. It is getting excellent scores at metacritic.com. As someone already mentioned, it is 100% at rotten tomatoes. I just hope all this hype doesn't disappoint me when i finally get to see it. Fortunately, I was not disappointed by Clint's Mystic River last year after all the hype.

This is probably the best film this year... I loved it, I was lucky to see a screening of it. Grade: 10/10

I am writting a review on it which will be up in a couple of hours.

Cheers,

So are the previews a mis-representation of it? Looks to me like it's trying to be pushed as another aging person helps younger person find hope movie.

I read a review for this flick in a newspaper while eating a chicken finger sub at a local store. The reviewer mentioned that this is one of Clint's best films and better than the very well done but overrated Mystic River.

I checked out the trailer earlier and definitely want to catch this one - especially since Clint and Morgan are back on screen together

Yeah, I hadn't heard anything about this movie until I saw a commercial for it a few days ago. I'll probably try and catch it after my final on Monday.
