Best Season of West Wing?

DVD Talk Gold Edition
I think the general consensus is season 2 but one would really want to watch starting with one as the quality and storylines are strong from the beginning and ones enjoyment of season 2 will be affected if they start there.

I'm not sure which season I like best... I think they're all very good. But I do think that it's important to start with season one. I would recommend season one for that reason.

S2 was probably my favorite but you have to start at the beginning to get the full impact of the storylines.

Season 1, definitely. Season 2 was great too, but the show started off stronger than any show I can think of in recent memory. You will be struck very quickly at just how good the show is.

It is hard to choose between the first 3 seasons. They were all excellent. I would say S2 is slightly better than S1. I have to go back and watch S3 to say where that falls.
I agree though - start with S1.

I agree with pretty much everyone that you need to start at the beginning, but that all the seasons are great. This show works really, really well on DVD. I didn't think that it would, but for some reason it really seems to lend itself to watching in large blocks.

I must concur with my fellow DVDTalkers. Start from the beginning and work your way through them. The first season being primo and the third season, well, not so hot IMO. But they're all good mind you. Just that the bar was set high from the get-go.

1-2 are great and 3 is very solid as well. Since it's a continuing storyline, why not do the logical thing and start at the beginning?
The real debate starts when seasons 4-5 hit DVD. The quality drops more than you could possibly imagine.

I agree, Season One is definitely the most accessible, but the most bang for your buck might be Sports Night: it's got everything that made The West Wing great, but it's even more rapid-fire and you get two complete seasons.

Seasons 1 and 2 can either now -- or very shortly -- be picked up for $29.99, as Warner and HBO are putting a LOT of their DVD TV Shows on sale for the holidays, including Friends, Band of Brothers, Sopranos Season 4, Everybody Loves Raymond Season 1 and more.

Only caught 2 broadcast episodes. Just started watching the show from the 1st season (in order) a few months ago on DVD, and I'll echo the sentiments that all 3 Seasons are good but you should start with 1. I'd also echo the sentiment that Sports Night is probably a better series (and I'm not a sports fan).
I'm 7 episodes into WW's 4th season, and I really like it so far. I've heard it tanks when Sorkin leaves, so I'm lowered my expectations for Season 5.
