Take your pick, they all bite. R2 and 4 have anamorphic transfers, but none of them have DTS. R1 is non-anamorphic.

Check dvdcompare if you need more details.

hmm...well, is the anamorphic transfer at least better than the region 1 nonanamorphic transfer?

i watched that again recently and it just looks plain bad on a large display. barely passable.

The Game did get a DTS LD release in the US. Great disc, too. I own it.

The only NTSC 16:9 version of The Game is from Japan.

IF YOU CAN FIND IT, it will run you about $70 without shipping.

I don't know why it costs so much but there you have it.

for that $$, i think i can conjure up some patience and wait for a region 1 SE. i just can't believe they won't reissue this dvd with a good transfer and special features.

Considering every other DVD of Fincher's has gotten at least 2 discs, and the fact that this is arguably his best work, makes me angry. I plan on getting the Criterion LD w/in the next month and ripping all its supplements and whatnot and constructing my own damn 2-disc SE. Now to buy a LD player...

Good luck with that. The Criterion LD was one of the last produced and will run you AT LEAST $70-100 on Ebay. And that's if you can find it.

Then you have to get a very good player...etc etc...

Luckily I picked mine up during a clearance sale and got it for about $10. Haven't made that 2 disc set yet though. And unless Criterion leases out the extras, these will never be seen.

I already copied my Criterion LD onto DVD-R. For archival purposes only, of course. I still own the LD, so I'm legal.

The Criterion LD RETAILED for $100 (welcome to Criterion LD), so finding it for $100 or less really isn't that bad. I mean, it's bad when you're used to DVD, but for those of us that collected Criterion LD, it's normal. I got Criterion's Bram Stoker's Dracula LD (great disc) for a song at $25. But that's not as in demand as The Game.

The last several on eBay haven't gone for so much, but I just came into some $ anyway...it shall be mine!

The other issue is...I don't know ANYONE who has a copy of the Japanese DVD. So not only are you spending a lot of money, you're also not sure of what you're getting either.

The CAV one? Criterion released two edition: a bare bones and a loaded SE. Sounds like you got the bare bones, which I think included just a documentary.

Criterion only released one edition of Bram Stoker's Dracula on LD, the deluxe CAV set with commentary and hours of supplements. The CLV movie-only edition and the CLV "Collector's Edition" with a documentary were both put out by Columbia TriStar.

No, dear.

Got the fully loaded Criterion edition. And as Josh said, there is only one.
