National Treasure

Anyone seen this or plan on seeing it? Here's a link to Ebert's 2-star review for those interested in seeing The Da Vinci Code, ahem...National Treasure: review (in which his last sentence states the following):
"National Treasure" is so silly that the Monty Python version could use the same screenplay, line for line.

For some reason I want to see this movie. The reviews on AICN say it's pretty good.

I typically love silly fun adventure flicks (Best example - 1999's 'The Mummy') so I'm crossing my fingers for this one.

I saw this last night at a sneak preview ....

It is definately silly, and if you can buy into the premise and not think too much about what is going on, I think you can have fun with National Treasure. There are quite a few action sequences, strung together with running from point A to point B with many one-liners in between. The movie runs a bit long, especially towards the end, but it doesn't become overly tiresome. This would probably be a fun matinee, though I don't think I'd pay full price to see it.

On a side note ... I haven't been to a sneak preveiw recently, but the security seemed excessive for a preview shown only hours before the release of the film. There were no electronic devices of any kind allowed into the screening, and two guards were present to wand everyone at the door. During the film, the guards came in occasionally and scanned the auidence with night-vision binoculars. Weird.

AICN is a pretty reliable source for finding out which movies are willing to bribe good reviews to cover up bad ones actually...seriously not joking!

That's because Bruckheimer interns wrote them.

(In my best Monica Bing) I know!!!! me too! It's probably fulfilling the same need we experience rubber-necking roadway accident scenes.

I saw it today and enjoyed it quite a bit. Not as good as Pirates of the Caribbean but I think Disney & Bruckheimer do have another hit on their hands. Great mix of action and light comedy. I liked the "sidekick" character Riley Poole and the Abigail Chase character was easy on the eyes.

4 out of 5 stars

I saw this on Wednesday at a pre-screening.

It definitely was nowhere nearly as good as Pirates of the Carribean but it was a fun movie.

I'd give it 2.5 stars out of 4.

The cast was Nicholas Cage, Helen from Troy and the retarded kid from Gigli.

And since it's a Bruckheimer movie, there was a big explosion.

Saw this at a matinee today...also enjoyed it.

A couple of the chase scenes got a bit long...but it could have been that I was sitting too close. Stadium seating and I was in the 3rd row from the front...on the main floor as it was almost sold out.

The premise was a bit silly...as stated...but it was fun.

I'd also agree that the one liners were cute and the female was really beautiful

If that wasn't a Bart Simpson-style review, I don't know what is.

Just saw it this evening, since my students keep mentioning it in class (because it mentions the Declaration of Independence in the commercials, something we recently studied). This film is pretty much what I imagined the film version of the Da Vinci Code to be like when I was reading it, right down to the characters, plot details, action and assorted twists and turns. It was somewhat entertaining, not nearly as bad as I had expected. It's worth a matinee price, I'd say, but only if you've already seen The Incredibles.

There are still plenty of guns, explosions, and innuendo for a PG Disney movie.

I would recommend seeing it in a theater. It's a great Summer popcorn flick that just didn't happen to come out in the Summer.

I caught this one last night with a couple of friends and we all enjoyed it. It's definitely a fun popcorn movie and worth seeing in the theaters. Diane Kruger being in it didn't hurt either.

Just the fact you know who the retarded kid is from Gigli scares me.

I think I will wait for a rental on this one as well, based on word of mouth.

And you NOT knowing scares me. The actor, Justin Bartha, is terrible. He was in GIGLI and now he stinks up the already moldy NATIONAL TREASURE. Not funny at all, but man-oh-man does he try.

Pretty strong opening for National Treasure, with a 11 million dollar Friday. Not too shabby!

Hey, I had to watch Gigli just to see if it was really bad as everyone said it was.

I bought it pre-viewed at BBV for $7.99, watched it and traded it back in for $8.00 so no skin off my back.

The movie wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (probably cuz I had really really low expectations). The dialogue was terrible but otherwise the movie wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I gave it 1.5 out of 4 stars.

I think that all Bruckheimer movies should be seen on the big screen just for the explosions.
