Status of early 80s horror films not on DVD?

I figured I'd ask here first.

Does anyone know if the following early 80s horror films are "in the works" to come out on DVD anytime soon?

Alligator (1980)
Blood Beach (1981)
Curtains (1983)
Deadly Blessing (1981)
Death Valley (1982)
Demonoid (1981)
Funeral Home (aka Cries in The Night) (1983)
Mausoleum (1983)
Mortuary (1983)
Night School (1981)
Seduction, The (1982)
Silent Scream (1981)
Unseen, The (1981)

All are deserving and have their fans. Anchor Bay/Blue Underground/Synapse...help!

I thought I had read somewhere that Mortuary and Death Valley were being worked on. can't confirm and this was a while back. DVD is not dead yet....so paitence may give you many rewards.

if there are no serious rights issues or print problems...I'll bet you'll see them at some point. check other regions?

hell...I'm still waiting for a domestic release of The Burning...although I do love my import of that one.

That's a damn fine list TerrorTrain. A few other early 80's slashers I'd also like to see on R1 dvd someday: Final Exam, Just Before Dawn, Student Bodies, The Burning, The Dorm That Dripped Blood, Sweet Sixteen, Night Warning, and Girls Nite Out.

Silent Scream (1981)
It was actually made in 1980 (that's when I saw it in a Tsawassen, B.C. theater, a couple miles from the house where some of the filming was done).

I believe NIGHT WARNING is coming from BU,

JUST BEFORE DAWN is coming from synapse, as thats what they keep boasting on other messageboards

THE SEDUCTION is coming from MGM,

SILENT SCREAM from the same budget label that released THE OCTAGON/FORCE OF ONE,

SWEET SIXTEEN is already out on brentwood already,

as is DORM THAT DRIPPED BLOOD is out on Jef films,

DEMONOID and MORTUARY is coming from one of the new horror speciality DVD labels.

as for others....

NIGHT SCHOOL is owned by WB,

DEATH VALLEY, DEADLY BLESSING is owned by MCA,

MAUSOLEUM and THE BURNING and FINAL EXAM is owned by MGM,

ALLIGATOR is owned by lions Gate,

STUDENT BODIES and BLOOD BEACH is owned by Paramount,

so shoot off a email to them, as none of these studios will sub-license them to BU, AB or synapse.

CURTAINS and especially FUNERAL HOME is caught in a major legal mumbo jumbo, so it is unlikely to EVER come out in the next 5-10 years.

I'd put Prom Night on there. I know it was released during dvds infancy and is OOP-time to rerelease it as an Anchor Bay divimax series?

Thanks all for the updates. Much appreciated

I realized I goofed with Silent Scream as 1981 and not 80 after I posted. Oops!

I agree with jonpeters that Prom Night seriously needs a reissue.

Forgot about The Boogens but would love that too.

As for Final Exam, that is one of the worst/boring ones ever. But I must confess that I would purchase it if it had a trailer.

I would really like Warner to put out another favorite of mine: Eyes Of A Stranger (1981)

Salamander. Thanks for your help but I have some questions/comments:

--Blood Beach owned by Paramount (!) and Night School owned by Warner (!) How did that happen?
--Curtains and Funeral Home in legal limbo? Wow! For such little titles, I would not have expected this. Any additional info as to why?
--So Silent Scream is available on DVD? Where can I purchase?
--I'm surprised Lions Gate is sitting on a cult classic like Alligator. Same with Deadly Blessing (since it is a Wes Craven film)

PROM NIGHT is in the $5.50 bin at Wal-Marts nationwide. Platinum is the label, but of course the quality is what you'd expect at that price.

PROM NIGHT was licensed by Platnum as Anchor bay did not renew their licensing on it. Pity.

As for SILENT SCREAM, is it actually coming soon from that Trinty DVD label that put out OCTAGON and FORCE OF ONE. They control the Ameircan Cinema library.

NIGHT SCHOOL was produced by Lorimar, whom Warner now controls their library. It used to be cbx/fox when Paramount and UA use to release Lorimar titles theatrically, but Warner now owns the lorimar library (ditto SEA WOLVES, CARNY. CRUISING, LOOKIN TO GET OUT, ).

BLOOD BEACH was produced by a man who produced movies for paramount like SERIAL, and told me he sold the rights to paramount.

On FUNERAL HOME, there is TONS of money owed to people in this film, and the owner of the film has passed away, so it is in legal hell right now.

WOW salamander2, your info is really helpful.

Guess I have to hope that my already battered and worn Paragon tape of Funeral Home lasts another couple of years.

I hope Paramount considers Beach for next Halloween

I have sent an email to Warner Home Video Customer Service suggesting that they release Night School, Eyes of a Stranger, A Stranger is Watching (1982), The Hand (1981) and Deadly Friend (1986). Hope they forward it to Marketing/Sales.

Happy to hear about Silent Scream and hope Trinity includes the trailer.

What about NIGHT OF THE CREEPS (1986)? I heard it was coming but no new info in awhile.

Great info, salamander2- Thank you for the updates.

I wonder when Alligator will be on Region 1? I liked that movie and the 2nd one a lot. Kindy cheesy, but still, good movies. It's on Sci-Fi every once in a while. Are they rated R? if so, im seeing the edited versions on Sci-Fi, thats why ill have to buy it on dvd

The Dorm That Dripped Blood is out on DVD under a different title. Sorry, I can't recall what it is.

I'm still waiting for MGM to release an unrated DVD of The Burning. Amazon.com has exclusive rights to the unrated VHS.

It is released under Pranks. And boy, does that DVD suck. When and if it gets a real release, I will dump this one asap. On the upside, it doesn't have a real release yet.

Shame about Funeral Home; that's a damn fine movie, with a magnificent performance from Kay Hawtrey as the batty grandma. Off the top of my head, three more steller early '80s horrors I'd like to have are Ghostkeeper, Sole Survivor (1982), and The Appointment (1981).

I have a couple that i've been looking for, Frightmare and there was a movie with Robert Englund, i'm not quite sure of the title I think it was something like Night Terrors if I could remember correctly, i'm not sure if it was the exact title but it was something like that.

How about Phantasm II? Btw, as a project for Halloween I started compiliing a definitive list of slasher movies. I included spoofs, but excluded bio-pics about real-life serial killers (like Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer or The Deliberate Stranger) and movies that were more creature-features than slashers. For you fellow fans, here's what I've come up with so far, broken down chronologically with red entries denoting those that are not yet available on region 1 DVD (feel free to chime in with any titles I might have missed):
