Batman forever question

I was watching the U2 video for "kill me ,kiss........" and in that video 2 questions popped up.
1) Was Bono(or the band) supposed to be in the film, I remember hearing a rumor at the time to that effect.
2)In the video Bono is reading "The screwtape letters", was this in some sort of deleted scene or some thing?

Re: Batman forever question

#1 per imdb

Joel Schumacher had asked Bono of U2 to reprise his role of Macphisto that he played during the band's ZOOTV tour, but Bono denied, saying that when ZOOTV ended so did Macphisto, so instead U2 contributed the song "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" to the soundtrack.

Bono was reading TSL and it was a major influnce on MacPhisto.

Referencing Screwtape

"Are you still a believer?", she asked. "If so, what are you doing dressed up as the devil?"

Bono gave her a serious answer, as the music roared on. "Have you read The Screwtape Letters, a book by C.S. Lewis that a lot of intense Christians are plugged into? They are letters from the devil. That's where I got the whole philosophy of mock-the-devil-and-he-will-flee-from-you," replied Bono, referring to U2's ironic, video-drenched tours in the 1990s.

Yes, the girl said, she had read The Screwtape Letters. She understood that Lewis had turned sin inside out in order to make a case for faith.

"Then you know what I am doing," said Bono.
