How many films will you have watched this year?

Every once in a while I'm the subject of some good-natured ribbing from friends and family because I watch a lot of movies (most of my friends and family are only casual fans of cinema).

I don't recall this being done in the forum and it's close enough to the end of the year that most of you can make projections, so I'm asking, how many movies (meaning all movies not just this year's releases) do you anticipate watching (repeat viewings count too) in 2004? I'm curious to see where my total falls among the ranks of cinephiles. Also curious to gain some - and only some - insight into your viewing habits.

It would be even more insightful if you want to break it down such as: films seen in the theater, films watched at home, first-time viewings vs. repeat viewings, short films maybe, etc..

Batter-up.........
I've never really kept a list of what I watch so I'm completely guessing for my totals. I'd say maybe 225. I used to go to the theater fairly regulary but I've virtually stopped this year with only a handful of trips, so pretty much all of my total is home viewing. Of the 225, I'd say 200 are first-time viewings with only about 25 repeat viewings. Repeat viewings have fallen for me this year due to a greater interest I've found for foreign (Asian to start with) cinema. Also very rarely have I found time for more than 1 movie per day.

I'll take a stab in the dark and guess that my number of 225 would put me middle of the pack around here. Curious to see if that indeed is the case.

Note: I probably would have watched another 10 movies this year but being a fan of the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox is not without its sacrifices.

Well, if we're talking movies viewed IN THE THEATER, it will be less than 50 this year (it's usually around 100, but there seems to be less and less releases I want to pay to see lately!)

If we're talking DVDs...gosh - it probably averages out to 1 a day...so we're talking 350+ But a lot of those are made-for-TV movies, TV shows, and non-theatrical specials...so if we're talking theatically released movies, I'm guessing the count would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 200.

On pace this year to see ~175 films in theaters this year. 2003 had a total of 260.

Started counted DVD and video titles this year. Those only add about 25-30 titles to the list.

But I'm strictly keeping count of movies I haven't seen until this year.

My chief interest is to get a total count on theatrically-released/made-for-TV/direct-to-video (non-adult) movies watched (although if someone feels the need to step up and say they've watched Jenna Jameson movies twice-a-day every day you're more than welcome to share).

But go ahead and steer this in any direction you feel has some merit. The insight is appreciated. As for me, I'm not really big on TV-on-DVD, music DVDs, short films, or documentaries.

I voted in the 76-150 range, but looking back that was probably a bit low. We generally go see at least one movie a week and try to catch up on DVD viewing as much as possible.

I see maybe 30-40 in the theaters. At home we usually watch at least one DVD a night, so all together maybe a little over 400 movies a year.

To date I have watched 120 films for the first time this year. I haven't keep track of movies that I have rewatched this year but there have been many. I'd guestimate that by years end, I'll have watched a good 150 "new to me" movies and another 100 repeat movies. So... 2-fitty.

I keep a list of every single movie I have ever seen. Yeah its nerdy and yeah I have a super good memory, but it is something I enjoy keeping up with and I love making lists.

I planned on watching 366 new movies (new meaning I have never seen it before) this year. So far I have watched 290. About 60 of those would be in the theater.

Now if we are talking about how many movies I have watched in total, including movies I had seen before (repeat veiwing) I have probably watched over 400 this year alone so far.

Now that I think about it, that seems like a lot. One would think I have no life outside of movie watching. I am triple majoring and have 3 jobs. I guess it is a good thing I never sleep and have lots of time to watch movies.

It is really fun to try and go back and remember how many movies you have ever watched. I started my list one day while I was really bored in class. The internet helps with looking up titles you can't remember off the top of your head.

I am 23 years old and have seen 1,790 movies so far. I hope to reach about 3,500 before I hit 30. I also have a list of horror movies I have seen since it is my favorite genre, that total is 368 titles as of this weekend.

Easily over 600. I watch at least 1, maybe 2 at work. More on the if there's a marathon on cable. When I'm not at work I watch about 3 a day. Average is about 14 a week.

So far:

DVDs
Ones I own (been tracking in order to get my unwatched pile down):472
Rented: Approximately 25

Theater:
Approximately 40 so far

So I picked 501-600, based on what I've watched so far, but should've probably picked 600+ since I'll watch about another 100 DVDs this year, and probably see 10-12 movies at the theater.

198 is you're talking about never before viewed films, but with repeat viewings, well over 200.

I would say that pretty much describes my viewing habits for the year as well. I would like for the number to be more in both venues, but just not that much at the theater I want to spend a premium on seeing this year. At home I'm sure I average one per day. My DVD players get alot of use as do my TVs.

So far, I've seen 69 movies in the theatre this year -- expect to end up at around 85 by year's end (down from 104 last year).

Probably view about 160 on DVD this year (most will be first viewings).

so far i've seen 200 movies for the first time in theaters and on video/dvd.

in theaters i've seen 23 so far this year. and i still have to see Saw, The Life Aquatic, Seed of Chucky, the Incredibles, Sideways, Meet the Fockers, Our Music, and Ocean's 12.

all first time + repeat viewings will probably be over 500 by the end of the year.

I've seen about 100 flicks in the theatre (2004 releases only) and at least another 100-150 on disc so far... so i'm guessing around 300-350 probably.

I've watched at least 80 movies on DVD so far this year and I'm guessing at least 20 movies in the theatre.

No "putdown."

I'm just curious, since that averages out to more than one film a day - fairly heady if this is all theater visits.

yup, all theatre visits, bear in mind some of these films were seen at film festivals or retrospects where I would sit through at least three movies in a row in a day.
