The Terminal Tom Hanks 3 Disc collectors edition?

I have not seen it but why is there a two disc (3 when you count the soundtrack cd) collectors edition?

I don't recall this movie being a hit.

They're doing a one-disc standard and a limited edition two-disc. It seems more honest (IMO) than releasing it as a two-disc, waiting six months, discontinuing the two-disc and putting out a one-disc.

I don't recall this movie being a hit.
If Spielberg wants it to be a two-disc, it'll be a two-disc, y'know?

Anyway, it did better than 'Gothika'.

It was a great little flick. I think it will get more attention during the holidays. Making it a 2-discer might draw in a few more dollars per DVD sold as well. Making up for the lackluster B.O. Returns.

I agree with Michael. Just because it wasn't a hit, doesn't mean the movie isn't good. I thought it was pretty enjoyable, and will definitely pick up the DVD.

It made more money than Hellboy, which got a 2-Disc release then a 3-Disc Director's Cut.

Not a hit? Don't you realize the best movies are never hits! The movie going public loves the crappiest movies!! Ok, rant is over.

I do agree with you, but I also can see how a movie starring Tom Hanks and directed by Spielberg that *doesn't* do big business (which this didn't; it did moderate business, made it's money back) would have some people saying "Wow, that must be awful".

That said, it was one of the most enjoyable movies of the year, and I really love that Tom Hanks is willing to play funny parts again. Between that and 'Ladykillers', I've loved Hanks more this year than in the last ten combined.

I don't think they advertised it very well.

maybe if a major star plays an Eastern European, everyone tunes it out..

Harrison Ford when he played the Russian in K-19 the Widowmaker also had the same results at the box office.

Your theory gets shot to hell though if the major actor actually turns out to be and Eastern European.

I haven't seen it yet, but I will do a blind buy for the 3 disk since I tend to be a sucker for collectors editions. Plus the 3 disk looks pretty good.

Also it has these features.

Extras on the limited edition set will include The Take Off: Making The Terminal featurette, a feature that gives you an exclusive tour of the incredible sets of the film, Boarding: The People of The Terminal which includes interviews with Hanks, Spielberg etc and an In-Flight Service: Music of The Terminal featurette. Other extras will include cast and crew biographies, production notes and a photo gallery. Rounding off the limited edition set will be a CD soundtrack and an exclusive The Terminal gift.

I'll be getting the 3-disc set. I enjoyed the film, I loved Hanks in this film I thought he gave a great wonderful performance. I also like how they are putting the soundtrack with the movie together.

I really liked the movie, and thought that it was underrated. Definitely worth a blind buy, IMO.

Getting the 3discer...I've been meaning to pick up the soundtrack for months but didn't get around to it...one of Williams better scores of late... and The Terminal is easily in my top 5 for the year so far... a very enjoyable and fun flick...I hope it can find a bigger audience on dvd...

MATT

and I work in a movie theatre and can attest to people equating "less than 100 million = crappy"... lots of people came up to me saying "That terminal movie is supposed to really suck right?" to which I'd reply "NO actually, it's one of the best movies you're likely to see this summer". That usually left them scratching their heads.

I loved this film, so I'm definitely getting the three discer. I, too, don't see why a lot of people thought it didn't do all that well. It made nearly 80 million here in the states alone, plus at least double that when you factor in overseas gross. It was an extremely enjoyable film (and, it was just as good the second time I saw it as it was the first).

The only thing I didn't like about The Terminal (and this is just a nit picky thing) is that they are promoting Catherine Zeta Jones so much. If you factor it out, she's in this movie for about thirty minutes total (less than 25% of the running time), but she gets second top billing next to Hanks (when Stanley Tucci was in it a lot more than she was).

So by your book, are Big Mamma's House, Armageddon, Bringing Down the House, Princess Diaries 2, Big Daddy and I, Robot are better movies than The Terminal?

I, Robot was a great film, not quite the summer blockbuster you would have us believe.
