Amityville 2 & 3 questions...
Since I'm not too keen on waiting around for these to pop over to region 1, does anyone know how these two "region 0" DVDs are?

Are these truly region 0? I don't have a region-free player and don't want to be screwed importing 2 movies only to have them incompatible with my player. Are these decent DVDs to begin with?
[And as a note, I know thse 2 movies aren't the greatest, so I don't want any discussion about how all these sequels sucked. Also, I don't want anyone pressuring me into a region-free player because I'm not going to buy one for these movies or any movies.]

It says they're R0 so presumably they are, but they're also in PAL format which means that they won't play on most R1 players/televisions.

amityville 2!
i got amityville 2 a few weeks ago, and heres the deal, i tried on 3 diffrent dvd players and it plays on all. so i quess its compatable with all.. its a really well put together dvd though,, the audio is really electrifying! the picture is not bad. its 1.85 widescreen (but claims to be 2.35 on dvd box) there are a few scratchs and white speckles, but the best its ever looked. There is audio commetary which is worth a listen. and the coolest thing is the photo galley (there are rare photos of sonny and his sister on the bed) and stills that wernt in the film at all.
also the package is great, you get a awesome collectors box with 5 lobby cards and a booklet with real crime photos and real pictures of the real family. really great stuff. i highly recommend it..

The AMITYVILLE II disc is pretty decent.
The AMITYVILLE 3-D disc is a mixed bag. It contains a flat 2-D version as well as a horrible red/blue anaglyph 3-D version, both in the full 2:35 to 1 ratio. The commenary is fun, though not especially informative.
Keep in mind the 3-D version isn't the original. The film (like 99% of all 3-D movies) was screened theatrically in the polarized format, in which the audience wears clear glasses. The film was pretty effective in theatres. Unfortunately, the DVD version has been downconverted into the inferior red/blue anaglyph system, and not very well at that. The effect on DVD is awful, the gimmicks don't work, the picture is blurry, full of color fringing ghosts, the color is distorted, etc. In short, not very good, and not at all representative of the original 3-D.
I'd recommend the AMITYVILLE II disc, and the AMITYVILLE 3-D disc gets points for being the first release of this film in the OAR (most previous DVDs have been cropped to 1:33 or 1:78) but the 3-D version is pretty much unwatchable.

Doubtfully. You likely need a DVD player which converts PAL-NTSC (my Cyberhome and Lasonic do). Your computer DVD drive will likely be able to play them fine; can you output it to your television?

Ignition, you'll need one of those region free/PAL to NTSC converting players you refused to buy a few posts above to watch these on an NTSC TV. Your PC will handle it just fine for sure.
