Chariots of Fire SE in Feb '05!

From thdigitalbits.com:

You Oscar film fans will be pleased to learn that Warner has just announced that they'll release a 2-disc Chariots of Fire: Special Edition on 2/1/05 (SRP $26.99). The previous and out of print DVD release was full frame only, but this new version will be anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Over 3 1/2 hours of extras will be included. Expect audio commentary with director Hugh Hudson, 11 deleted scenes, screen test footage for Ben Cross and Ian Charleson, the Wings on their Heels: The Making of Chariots of Fire and Chariots of Fire: A Reunion documentaries, 2 Easter eggs and the theatrical trailer. Should be a good release.

LONG overdue. Just dumped my FS version on eBay

Tremendously good news! I didn't even know it was coming out and noticed it when perusing the soon to be new release list. IMHO, one of the best films ever made.

I simply can't wait for this release. The Vangelis score in 5.1 is going to be incredible.

Yup, after watching the movie, I'll mute the center speaker and listen to my own isolated Vangelis score! Cannot wait.

It looks like a digipak pretty much in line with their 2-disc special edition of classic films

I've never been as enthusiastic about this movie as most people - but I'm looking forward to going through the extras and perhaps they'll give me a better appreciation for this one.

Anybody pick this up?

Is it a digipak like the Casablanca SE?

How long are the extra features on disc 2?

I sold my stupid full screen version on ebay for $18.00 since it was Out-of Print and bought the new SE 2 disk widescreen from Circuit City for $14.99. Warner Bros. doesn't make the digipak anymore, unless it's 3 or more disk like Gone With the Wind. It's in a keepcase with a slip cover. The same thing that's on the slip cover is on the keepcase cover, just like Disney does theirs.

Is your slip cover also 1/4" shorter than the keepcase?

I bought this Tuesday before work and when I took it home and opened it there was a white paint streak from the center to the edge of the bottom of Disc 1. I raced back to Target before they closed and grabbed a copy to exchange it. The lady at the returns counter wanted to open it to make sure it didn't have the same problem. I was thinking to myself, "What are the changes that two different copies will have the same problem? You're wasting my time." She opened it up and it had a nearly identical white paint streak on the bottom! So I grabbed another off the shelf, opened it up and there was no white paint streak. Took about 45 minutes out of my evening and it was too late for me to start the movie. Anyone else have this sort of problem?

What's this I hear about a slip-cover. From the big stack that I picked mine out of, none of them had a slip-cover. Is this some sort of hoax...

The actual dvd cover (pictured in this thread) is sorta lame, giving away the film, but I guess that's a foregone conclusion. Still, it's sorta out of character for WB, since they've been pretty good with choosing original poster art for covers. What happened here?
