Tivo???

I was interested in getting Tivo. I'am also going to be dropping my cable service and getting Dishnetwork. Dish has the receivers with the DVR's, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be silly to buy a Tivo box, when dish has DVR's? There are probably more features and more storage on the Tivos, but.................

If you are going the TIVO route, you should definitely go with DirecTV over Dish Network.

Directv>>>>>>Corporate Bullies..

Thanks for your opinion, but absolutely NOT! An extremely long story short, Directv sued my 65 year old father in law for PIRACY!! The man can barely walk, doesn't know sh!t about Directv, never had directv, in fact does not even have cable TV.

After numerous calls to Directv, they did not want to hear anything, they wanted about 3-4 thousand dollars or they would sue my father in law. They said he bought something with his credit card, over the internet, that can get free directv. We tried to explain his wallet was stolen a long time ago and we had police reports to prove it and that he never had directv OR a computer, they did not want to here it, they sued him!! After spending six thousand dollars on attornys fees, the court ruled against directv. But, WE, my wife and I are out six grand for this sh!t. We have found out, they are sueing ALOT of innocent people.

DIRECTV...............Corporate Bullies!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your father in law. Had they done that to me I would have contacted the press (who love crap like this) then walked into the courtroom with NO attorney and demanded a trial by jury. Any sane judge would have thrown the thing out.

But, that's just me.

I have Dish Network and you should definitely get one of the Dish PVRs. It's true they have not enabled name-based recording yet (although that supposedly is coming), but in my opinion the advantages outweigh the one or two features you lose. Chiefly, because the PVR has the satellite tuner (or tuners) built in, you're recording the digital stream directly off the satellite with zero loss of picture quality.

You might want to consider the model that has two tuners built in, which allow you to record two shows at the same time, watch one show while recording another, or record two shows while watching a third that you previously recorded.

A lot of people will push Tivo and especially DirecTivo, and they really are good products. But I agree with you that DirecTV has become a corporate bully, and I also don't like the announcement last week that Tivo has instaled a Macrovision software patch to Tivo units that will allow content providers to delete recorded shows from the hard drive after a certain length of time without your permission.

Check out the forums at www.dbstalk.com for more information. There is a forum area specifically dedicated to Dish network PVRs, although I'll warn you there are some people there who are snarky and just like to complain about Dish (yet they never seem to actually leave Dish).
