It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown - tonight (10.26)

In the 1966 half-hour animated special It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, The PEANUTS gang celebrates Halloween, with Linus hoping that, finally, he will be visited by The Great Pumpkin, while Charlie Brown is invited to a Halloween party.
The program starts at 8 pm EST on ABC.

Even though I have the DVD, there's something about watching this broadcast each year. Of course, it's not the same with it being on ABC and the lack of Peter Paul commercials. Still, it brings back some fond memories.

Hmmm.... I wonder if they'll unearth "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown" to show next week.

... then they can also show the sequel "You're Not Elected AGAIN, George Bush".

Does anyone know if they're still re-dubbing the voices every few years like they used to do?

My favorite scene is when Pigpen comes to the Halloween party with the sheet on and somebody says, "Hi Pigpen" (or something like that) and he replies, "How did you know it was me?" Classic sutff.

Ever since I was a lad, I've always wanted to live in a town that had a pumpkin patch at the end of my street.

Have it on DVD and will be watching before the 31st.

Strange thing is, I enjoy watching it on TV better than DVD.

Almost forget about it playing tonight, even though I have it set to record on the TiVo, I prefer watching it "live".

Thanks for the reminder.

I wish they would advertise the holiday specials more. Or air them on the holiday. I always miss them. Fortunately I have the DVDs but before that I had to watch The christmas special on this really old video tape.

My local ABC affiliate broadcast a mayoral debate at 8 instead, so they moved the Great Pumpkin to 1:40 a.m. I've already set the DVR to record it.

I always love Sally's speech at the end about missing trick or treating.

I always wondered about Linus. He seems to be the most intelligent of the bunch yet he's so spiritual. His blind faith about the Great Pumpkin.. and his speech about the shepherds and the birth of Christ. I always wondered what he'd grow up to be.

@ CB's "I got a rock."

My single favorite moment of this special is when Linus makes the following face for a fleeting second while chewing Charlie Brown out (happens at 24:37 on the DVD):

That's why I like him so much - he's intelligent and spiritual.

How spiritual is it to worship a pumpkin? Jesus doesn't like that shit.

Hey, the Jews said Jesus wasn't the son of man. And now you are saying the second coming isn't the pumpkin? The streets will flow with the blood of unbelievers, my friend....

No, that's "tricks or treats" with a lisp.
