Films That Are Oh So Much More
Ok so I am ...... not new..... but just begining my deep delve into film. I have always been a huge fan of movies but until recently have been rather passive in my watching. I don't take the time to discuss them on the account that my friends don't like the same movies I do and sometimes find it boring. So I'll cut to the point. I want to get other people's opinions on truly influential movies. I am not talking movies that are "entertaining". I want movies that after you watch them you think.... "Wow". Movies that change you. Movies that change a throng of people.... Movies that change ALL the following movies. I guess we should give it a cap so I'll say...... top 15. Top 15 movies that have changed lives (whether yours personaly or the masses)

Ha Ha Ha! Now that we have that out of the way, let's get down to some serious business.
Quentin Tarantino set the new standard for cool...and a decade later, filmmakers are still trying to copy him.
The most controversial film about race relations in America.
Martin Scorsese's first and still best film.
Woody Allen's best.
John Woo redefines the action movie.
Oliver Stone gets Vietnam right.
The most famous sequel title in movie history.
Billy Wilder at his best.
Clint makes my day!
Hitchcock's most disturbing film.
Linda Blair on skates. Ooooooooooh!

Earlier this evening I was having a long conversation with a friend about the documentay Spellbound.
I thought that the families shown in it would make people happy and proud to live in America (which I don't). Watching it again I forgot all of the mistrust and anger many people around the world have aginst towards the USA. Instead, I was reminded of why it is one of the greatest countries to live in in the world.
(After Canada, ofcourse.
Go Canada!)

The Universal Monster Legacy movies offer a lot of social commentary and subtexts, as do a lot of horror and sci-fi movies from the era. I really enjoyed watching these movies as a kid and looking for the subtexts now makes them even more enjoyable as an adult.

Although I loved some of the great movies already mentioned, they didn't change me much personally. They do gives me a great deal of knowledge and entertainment, but I think the OP asks about movies that changes yourself, as well as other people, so...
Dances With Wolves and The Silence of the Lambs - I watched them around the same time of the years in mid 90s on TV. It was on fullscreen and everything, I know. I already liked movie at that time but the two movie just surpassed anything I've ever imagined and I knew from that point on that movie is really something for me.
Almost Famous. I'm always been uncomfortable with me being "uncool" until I watch this movie.
Casablanca. Although not really personal, but this movie introduces me to black and white cinema and be comfortable with that medium.

American Beauty -- showed me the beauty in a plastic bag
Metropolis -- robot movies were good even in 1927, silent films can tell a complex story
Snow White -- introduced animation as a viable medium for a feature film
The jazz singer -- the first "talkie" -- "you ain't heard nothin yet"
Natural born killers -- changed my views on violence and violence in the media. also seemed to be a heavy influence on Kill Bill as it integrated color, BW, and animation, flashback and fantasy scenes.
Citizen Kane -- it's contrast, shot framing, camera angles... one of the first films to show the ceiling in a set

Sorry you feel that way but this isn't a "favorite movie thread". I don't care what people's favorite movies are. I want to get peoples opinions on the importance of film and which films brought about that importance.

If there is one film that I would say had the most direct effect on my life, in that it actually propelled me to do something after viewing it, I would say it would be this year's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
I do not consider it to be my "favorite film" however. It might crack my Top 10.
Hell, a couple of those films I listed on the first reply of this thread I do not even care for much but I did anyways because JamMasterJay was looking for influential movies that made a difference in some way, and those all certainly did.
