4 Law & Orders enough for NBC? I think not.

3 on currently and 1 more on the way (Trial by Jury). NBC wants more - sort of - according to this tidbit on tvguide.com:

Chris Noth is in talks to reprise his role as Det. Mike Logan in a series of Law & Order TV movies for NBC, Variety reports. Noth's last L&O pic, 1998's Exiled, was a huge hit for the network, drawing 28 million viewers.

Works for me.

Now that Sex & the City is gone I miss Chris Noth so it will be nice to see him on the small screen again.

you'd think the oversaturation is evident w/ the declining ratings of the original show.

How about a Chris Noth Variety Hour? I'd watch that.

Part of that has to do with putting up a big show opposite it, although Home Improvement and Frasier were both top ten shows in the same time slot. Personally, I don't care about the original or the third L&O show. Bring on Logan!

I don't know if I would attribute the declining ratings solely to oversaturation. check out the thread to this week's ep: it has a lot to do with stagnant writing and bad acting. If the SVU team does the writing for the TV movies life will be even better.

But, if there were only one show, or even just two, the best writers could be doing those shows.

Kind of like how CSI is getting a bit stale, even the original, which was always the best.

Considering this wouldn't be a weekly series, I don't think it counts toward "oversaturation." There are probably enough L&O nostalgic for the "good old days" to make this work out pretty good.

tv movies would probably be ok, but they better watch out or they'll water it down into suckage like cbs did with csi

I don't think CSI was "watered down" so much as the spin-offs were nowhere near the quality of the original.

The original CSI, at its best, has always been about the "science geek" side of police work, while the other two are just generic cop shows.

I believe there is also a Law and Order: Crime and Punishment in addition to SVU, Criminal Intent and the original

There is, but it's more of a reality version of L&O, where a camera crew follows an actual case from start to finish. It's also not a regular series, just something NBC seems to put on now and then to fill timeslots.

They dropped the Law & Order name from C&P.

I think it would have been a better idea to do this type of "event" movie off and on, rather than a whole new series. I think "Trial By Jury" is going to lead to further erosion in ratings.

Mike Logan was the man, so I'd be more than happy to see Chris Noth don the American flag lapel pin, plaid tie, and leather jacket again. I'm a bit surprised to hear this since he hasn't been shy about criticizing Dick Wolf.
