It's beginning to look like Ben Affleck should consider a career change. Eh, at least he's a better actor than Freddie Prinze, Jr. I seriously don't understand how this guy along with Sharon Stone, Angelina Jolie (nice to look at, not a great actress), Freddie Prinze, Jr and David Arquette still get starring roles in Hollywood.
Anyways, Affleck was quoted on IMDB:
"I don't want to hold a gun in a movie or blow anything up ever again. I'm bored of those other kinds of movies. There's some irony to the fact that I want to do comedies and all these actors who already do comedies keep asking, 'When am I going to get to do my big serious thing?'"
After the receipts come in for this flick, I hope he does have a sense of humor.

You look at those reviews, and what so they have in common?
They all came to the film hating Affleck. Ahh, the evil side of critics...
Most of those reviews, even the ones this forum respects, seem awfully bullshit to me.
I saw it with a big crowd, and they all loved it. Big laughs. A slight movie, no argument, but many laughs.

I think some of these reviews just hate one thing about the movie. Ben Affleck.
I still am not sure why so many people seem to hate him since he comes across as a nice enough guy when you hear him speak

It's because its Affleck! These militant FAT ugly internet guys, who wish they can look like Affleck are bashing his films!
Give up guys!!! Except what you look like! Ugly guys can get chicks too!
Anyway....
I saw this movie and thought it was funny. Just wish they released it in November...but it's alright, November is really getting packed with releases.

I like Ben Affleck. A lot. But this trailer just does not look funny or appealing to me. Normally when I like an actor but the trailer sucks, I go to RT and assess the reviews and let that be the deciding factor if I'll see it.
If it's at 5% like you say (RT is down atm), then it doesn't sound like I'll be going to this one.
P.S.: Out of curiosity, I just went to IMDB to see just how many Ben movies I've seen in the theater...of the ones listed there that have been released, I've seen 18 of them in the theater, and 5 more of them on DVD.

Fat - a few extra pounds but nothing I'm ashamed about
Ugly - maybe, but (like you said) I accepted that a long time ago and no longer curse the creator for short-changing me...plus I did marry a beautiful wife so it doesn't matter anymore...ahem
I actually liked Daredevil of all things but every other movie he has been in (except Good Will Hunting), I find mediocre at best. He has the personality of milktoast...only slightly funnier, kinda like french toast. He has no "gusto", no machismo. If he were gay, he would be the bitch.
But going back to the RT review, it makes you wonder how many people have actually seen it and how many are just dissing babyface.
Maybe they released it in October so they could go ahead and release it on DVD by Christmas when it tanks....oops, "if" it tanks.

I like Affleck, hell I liked Forces of Nature and even enjoyed Pearl Harbor, I love his work with Smith, but this film just looks so painfully unfunny. If a trailer for a comedy can't make me laugh, then I ain't gonna wast me time paying to see the movie, maybe when it hits cable, maybe. I'm not a huge fan of "christmas" anyways, so few "christmas" movies interest me

I don't understand all the hatred towards Affleck. I am by no means a tremendous fan of his. I've seen him in a handful of movies, mainly Kevin Smith flicks, and he's always enjoyable to watch and seems to handle himself quite capably on screen. I think Surviving Christmas looks good. The critics tore apart Jersey Girl because of Affleck and I think that movie was really good as well. Screw the critics, there are movies Affleck has made that will stand the test of time. I am sure he has made some crap fest movies, but I just haven't seen them.
He's the bomb in Phantoms, dude.

This morning on the radio, a review was quoted which mentioned you'd be begging to be forced to view Gigli instead.

It looks like Surviving Christmas is now up to a whopping 7% at RT.
I didn't think another holiday film could come along this year that was a bigger POS, but now we have Christmas with the Kranks, hovering around 4%. I usually just check Rotten Tomatoes for fun, but damn this movie must truly be a giant turd. I saw Jamie promoting it on Leno and thought I'd give it a chance, but being a fan of her and Tim Allen, it might be too painful.
It's been years since one of these family holiday "comedies with a heart" didn't completely blow. I liked Bad Santa, but obviously it wasn't a family film. I'm talking about ones like A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, etc. I just don't see good ones like that anymore.
