Reviews can change quick overnight at rottentomatoes for a lot of movies, but I hope it doesn't for this one.

I remember seeing Regal's "Twenty" presentation on this movie and was quite impressed when I saw Foxx taking piano lessons from Ray Charles, who really seemed to have a lot of input into the film.
While Taylor Hackford has done some lackluster work in the past few years, his interview on the short I saw gave off the vibe that this was a movie he had been wanting to make for a long time, and was in top form for it.

Jamie Foxx's role as Ray Charles, is simply amazing, so much so, that after awhile, I really forgot I was watching Jamie. As for the film, it's very good, just not great, the use of the flashback is effective sans
Spoiler:
a cheap throwaway one at the very end that seems redundant and smaltzy. Also I kind of didn't like how the film got kind of preachy and made out the film as a high gloss feature length anti drug commercial.
other than these small quips, Jamie's performance is top notch and the music is great.

I agree with Giles. The movie was really amazing on all those respects. Jamie Foxx's acting was high and above the best thing on screen. The story was alright and it seems like the main oscar contender right now.

When I saw the "20" thing on this the first (months ago) I immediately turned to my wife and said "Bet that's your oscar winner right there -- Jamie Foxx"

Hard to believe but it appears that he does a great job in this (I have not seen it though)

I read that Foxx went to college on a full classical piano scholarship. Cool stuff.

He also wanted to get the whole blind thing down so he worked on that walking around blindfolded for a while. He really pulls it off very well.

That's right. His playing is genuine. He just had to learn to imitate Charles' style.

I seriously think we all will be. The trailer gives me huge chills. This, coupled with a nice job in Collateral makes him an odds-on favorite, imo.

Personally, I hope he wins it, though if Jim Carrey gets nominated (in my dreams) for Eternal Sunshine, I might be a bit torn.

I see the trailer and I can see that its probably going to be a good to very good movie with a great performance by Jaimer Foxx....but despite that, I have almost no interest in going to seet this movie.

I dunno.

The trailer looks (and sounds) great and I am not a fan on Charles' music. I am almost 99% sure Foxx will win the oscar, look at Charlize Theron last year. A great performance in a mediocre film.

Here is a very cool write up on Foxx, Charles, and the film itself.

After seeing Jamie Foxx in "Redemption: The Stan Tookie Wilson Story" there was no doubt in my mind that he could pull it off. Can't wait to see Ray.

There's been so much hype about Foxx getting the Oscar it might get blown out of proportion; I'm sure he's been asked this so many times in interviews I wonder if it gets to his head (as well as the media's); you hear it enough you actually begin to believe it.

While his performance I'm sure is worthy of the hype, there's the danger of overpromotion, overhyped expectations, and the whole thing jinxing itself.

I'm guessing maybe you don't have much interest in Ray Charles??

A great performance in a GOOD film (a great movie if rated in its biopic genre). I loved the dialogue in the early part of the movie, although it was not sustained. I kept forgetting it was Jamie Foxx...yes he is that good! But overall a more satisfying story arc than, say... Ali.
