Limited Issue Disney Movies
I was looking for Little Mermaid, and a few other Disney movies on DVD, but all I could find were Region 1 movies that were labeled Limited Issue.
Anyone know anything about these?
Are they any different than the real movie? Whats the deal?
Thanks

Disney:
The original 9 limited-issue titles:
Most of these are long out of print, and aren't available anywhere. Recently, there have been a rash of bootleg auctions for these titles, originally, they were billed as import editions, with different covers, but recently, there have been copies that were almost exactly like the originals. Be careful of any E-Bay auctions for these titles, as it is becoming more and more lucrative for someone to sell illegal bootleg copies of these films.
Edit: The Limited Issue discs are the original DVDs put out by Disney, and they will be re-released at some point in the future. Check www.ultimatedisney.com for more information. There are sequels available for most of the films, but IMHO they aren't worth the plastic they're printed on...

- The Lion King II - (Special Edition available)
- The Little Mermaid

I own The Little Mermaid Limited Edition DVD (Purchased in February 2000 for the heavily discounted price of $24.95 - MSRP was $34.95!)
The transfer is a just passable non-anamorphic 1.66:1 presentation. The colors are nicely saturated, but the transfer is a little "muddy" in a few places. Otherwise, the video is "OK" for an early non-anamorphic DVD. The audio was upgraded to Dolby Digital 5.1 and is very nice. This is the best part of the disc.
There are *no extras* whatsover.
It's nice to have this great movie on DVD, but this presentation is definitely *not* worth $500!
The 2-disc Platinum Edition release is due in 2006.

Given things are so expensive in Japan, do you buy your DVDs from R1?
