Paramount 2005 Special Collector's Edition Rumors

I just read this on http://www.thedigitalbits.com

10/18/04

Industry sources have slipped us some interesting information, revealing a few interesting titles that Paramount is considering for re-release as Special Collector's Editions in 2005. This information is extremely tentative, but you might keep your eyes peeled for new SCEs of Face Off, Airplane, McLintock!, Hondo, The Truman Show, Braveheart, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and maybe... just maybe... Titanic, among other titles, by the end of next year. Presumably, those films released previously on DVD in non-anamorphic widescreen will receive new HD anamorphic transfers.

The pending release of the John Wayne titles was reported a few months ago, with expectations that something might be coming in May. That's not really news.

We'll see, anything less than a 3-disc Titanic set will be a disappointment.

Hmm... i wonder how much i should believe this? Is it worth trading in Truman Show or Face/Off to Blockbuster in anticipation for rumored re-releases? Or not worth it. Argh... decisions.

Finally, The Truman Show.

And hopefully an improved Braveheart transfer.

This is great news. I'd love a Face/Off SE. The current DVD is anamorphic, but the transfer could use a little work. Same with Braveheart. And DTS tracks on both would be welcomed.

Titanic and The Truman Show desperately need new anamorphic transfers and a wealth of supplements. I'll probably pass on Ferris Bueller and Airplane! since the DVDs I've currently got are pretty solid.

I'd love to see Airplane! with those TV version scene extensions either in the movie, or as deleted scenes, like the Hi Jack joke.

I'd be all over these. I'm such a DVD whore, cuz 3 of 'em will be double dips (4, if you count The Truman Show, which I sold last year).

I'd love to own special editions Face Off, The Truman Show, Braveheart, and especially Titanic (I'd be very intrested in seeing James Cameron's 5 hour cut of the movie).

Man, looks like I'll likely be re-buying Braveheart, Airplane!, The Truman Show, Face/Off, and (most importantly) Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

I've been waiting for a better version of Truman - supposedly there were a ton of extras and deleted scenes/dropped storylines.

Ferris could be a double-dip for me, but when it came out it actually had a considerable amount of extras for a Paramount DVD (commentary, 16x9, DD5.1). I would dig as much deleted footage as possible and some cast interviews with Grey, Sara, Ruck and Broderick would be great too.

Good news on Face/Off. I'll double-dip Bueller if they keep the original commentary track.

I'd love a Face/Off SE!

And the good news is these are probably gonna be $9.99 like the recent Deep Impact and Untouchables DVD's...

Surely they'll release a better version of Airplane! Yes!

And don't call me Shirley.
