Anyone have a space heater near their DVD's?
I have a small space heater with its backside about 2 feet from a rack of my DVD's and I am wondering if this is safe, if it will do anything to the DVD's (like warp or affect playback) even if I don't watch them for awhile? anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance.

Generally speaking you don't want drastic heat or cold temperture changes around your dvds. My dvds are in a room with two computers, the temperture is around 10 degrees hotter, but it's a gradual increase...

Believe it or not, it gets very cold in my office where I store my DVD's and last year, I did have a very nice space heater, about 2 ft or so in front of my DVD's (pointing the other direction of course). Nothing happened!!

I'm in the same situation. My theatre room is in my basement, which is always about 65 degrees. It's dry there so that's not a problem, but I have a space heater for winter, and I make sure it's nowhere near my discs. If at all possible I'd say keep it away from them. Why take the risk, even if it's a small one.

Since the heater is pointed the other way, just turn it on for a little while and then feel the DVD covers closest to the backside of the heater. If the covers feel the same as the higher ones, I don't see a problem (other than the usual space heater problems).
This is, of course, if you can't place it anywhere else.

Not worth the chance. WHat's better, you freezing or your DVDs surviving a long time?

I should have said "exterior doors". Having them by an exterior door would expose them to moisture condensation from the inrush of warm moist air in summer and the inrush of cold air in winter. Not bad for the DVDs, but for the printed covers and inserts.

I use to have a shelf of discs located right in front of a heat vent. I found that while the dvds were not hit with heat directly...the shelf itself heated up which in return, heated up the cases of the dvds. not good. thats when I converted the walk-in closet into the film vault. now we are in our new home....and the temp is at a constant 69 degrees. my dvds are as cozy as a babys ass in a freash diaper. cloth diaper, of course.

The room where my DVDs are is cold in winter. I do have a tiny space heater in there, but I only use it when I'm in there (the main computer is in there as well) and as far from the DVDs as possible. It doesn't seem to warm up the DVDs at all (it blows in one direction only) and it keeps it bearable.
