Wonderfalls news: release date, cover art, disc art

http://savewonderfalls.com/

Looks like we'll be getting all thirteen episodes, on 3 DVDs, on January 18, 2005.

Cover art here:

I think it's been changed to a 4 disc set with the 4th disc being extras.

Other way around... the 4-disc was changed to a 3-disc set.

This show was great. I saw all 4 of the episodes that FOX aired, and I can't wait for the DVD set.

It's great that the packaging fits the theme of the show, although I'm not sure I would've gone with near totally obscuring the lead actor's face on the box cover.

I never watched the show or know who the lead actress is, but I'm for the opposite of what you said. I'm more into what is artistically correct, rather than plastering the DVD box art with the lead hollywood faces.

Well, arguably none of the actors in the show are "hollywood faces," and I doubt sales would drastically increase based on face recognition. Believe it or not, I was talking about artistic correctness as well.

Right now, the image on the cover is definately oddball. It's even a little disconcerting. I've never been a big fan of person/object splicing. I'm afraid it might put off the casual buyer browsing the aisles. I want something that better encapsulates the series, such as the Dead Like Me cover, which has a traditional Death figure blowing bubblegum. The veiwfinder really doesn't have as prominent a role as the cover suggests, being just an editing device.

I still hate Fox for cancelling this after it preformed poorly against the Aprentice and CSI. I hope the set sells tons of copies so they realize how wrong they were and the evaluate their reasons for cancelling good shows.

yeah, that will show them. Then they'll be crying then!

They cancel a lot of good stuff. they hardly ever decide to put it back unless it's affordable. Family guy is the prime example but I wouldn't expect many series to follow that model. Fox just cranks out more good shows to eventually cancel. That's the way it works.

I never got a chance to see this show, but I'm a bit surprised about the cult following it now seems to have. I'd be interested in checking it out anyway, because it I think some of it was filmed on location in my city (the good side, Niagara Falls, Ontario) but of course the show pretended that it was Niagara Falls, NY (the crappy side).

(but of course, this sure isn't the first time that a Canadian location doubled for a US city)

Heheh, has anyone looked really closely at the coverart? The viewfinder is just superimposed over the girl'd face...I mean, you can clearly see that her fingers are curled up beside her face, not holding the viewfinder thing.

Sort of like this image
http://www.calgarysun.com/htdocs/photos/82213.jpg
with the view finder over it.

Just thought that was amusing. Great show, can't wait for the DVD!

Worth a blind buy if you ask me!

I have heard it compared to Joan of Arcadia, but I never really watched Joan of Arcadia, except a couple episodes, and didn't find Joan quite that good. Wonderfalls is quirky in a Dead Like Me way.

Its nothing like JOA.

If you like DLM then I think you will like it.

It was too quirky to be really popular.

I cant wait to get this on dvd as I loved it.

Bunch of assholes at Fox.

Now you have me tempted. To be honest I thought it sounded like a very weird show but for some unknown reason I felt compelled to subscribe to this thread so I could get constant updates. Maybe something deep inside is trying to tell me I'd like this show.

Both shows have Bryan Fuller as a main writer so they seem similar.

Great news! Definitely on my "to buy" list!
to you, FOX, for cancelling this show!

As for the cover art, could it be one of those clear slipcases (w/ the ViewMaster on)? i agree that it'd be a shame to cover up Caroline Dhavernas' face.

It looks as though it was officially announced today, bad news is that it's now listing as releasing on February 1st. Detailed specs can be found here: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=2370
It's listing the aspect ratio as full frame, didn't its episodes broadcast in widescreen?

The shows were broadcast in 4:3 on FOX. I don't think FOX has yet regularly shown a TV show in WS on their standard broadcast.

However, 24, Firefly and Arrested Development were all released on DVD in widescreen. I guess it depends on if Wonderfalls was filmed with a widescreen version in mind or not.

www.savewonderfalls.com mentions in their July 15, 2004 that the set would be in WS. I remember that news about the show Firefly varied between the set being reported as in WS or FF up until it was released. As long as it's shown in the aspect ratio the creators are happy with, I'll be fine.

Ummm....this was broadcast in widescreen, much like every scripted show on FOX is outside of animation and That 70s Show.

And honestly, if this is released fullframe, Im going to have a hard time purchasing it...as much as I want this set. I watched it in widescreen originally, and thats what I want in this DVD set.

Only on their digital broadcast. On standard analogue broadcast they still air all their shows in 4:3 with few exceptions.
