DVD Talk Special Edition
This is the 7th and final season of the show. I think two seasons usually cover one year of time. I think they're in 1979 right now.
I think I heard awhile ago that if everyone involved wanted to continue, there wouldn't be a problem following them into the 1980's, despite the title of the show
Haven't seen this yet, but it's waiting on my TiVo for me to watch tonight.

Seasons 1 through 4 covered the 76-77 school year, their Junior year of high school (Jackie's freshman year).
Season 5 was their senior year (77-78), Jackie's sophomore year.
Season 6 was their first year of college (78-79), for those who went. Jackie's junior year.
Season 7, the final season, appears to still be during that same first year out of high school.

Interesting to bring Shotzie back for one episode (haven't seen him in FOREVER) and in the same breath mention that Laurie is living in Canada where "bottomless dancing is legal".

Well Donna is supposed to be in college, but they never really talk about it. Or did she drop out to work at the radio full time? I forget.

I don't remember if they ever finished the Kelso/police academy stuff.

One note: Jackie is one year younger than they all are. She would only be a year behind (not two). We find this out from one episode where everybody does a work with your parents day (or something like that) and Red asks Jackie why she isn't doing it and she says that she is a year younger than the rest of the gang are.)
Also nothing to do with the timeline, but Kelso is a year older than all of them (from the Halloween episode where they go to their old grammar school.)
