Who programs the movies on HBO, Showtime, etc?

Who decides which old movies from the 80's and early 90's are in the daily or weekly rotation for the premium cable networks?

Some movies like Remo Williams, Once Bitten, Starman, and Caddyshack 2 are always shown sometime during the year.

Movies from the 80's and early 90's are old? It sounds as if you might have been surprised to discover that Star Wars was a talkie!

Anyway - people are actually hired and paid to select the movies and work out the schedule. Not a bad job, huh?

I've often wondered the same. Especially as a kid growing up watching HBO in the 80s when The Beastmaster, Super Fuzz, Timerider and Swamp Thing were all on one continuous loop.

Most shows simply air in order on syndication, unless its something like The Simpsons, where's there's just too many episodes so only the more popular/recent ones get shown with some frequency.

Actually Cornholio, most shows for local stations are now picked by the broadcasting company that runs the station (Hearst Argyle, Young, Gannett, etc). The only show picking at the local level at the station I work for is local news or sports shows. Your best shot at that would be to work for a local station that is locally owned, not ran by a corporation. We run pretty much the same shows as the other stations in other markets that are managed by the same company. They get a better deal if they buy a show for all the stations.
