MARTIN (George Romero)---new Lions Gate Release
Though it doesn't look like it will have anything that different than the Anchor Bay release, I thought I'd post it for interested parties.
-November 9th, 2004-
Lions Gate will release George Romero's Martin. Full screen transfer, audio commentary with George Romero, John Amplas and Tom Savini, photo gallery and TV spots.

yes I believe the OAR is somewhere around 1:37:1.

Anyway, god bless. I'm a Romero fan and this is the one film I haven't seen. And I've heard lots of good things about it. That's true right it's good?

So yeah, the only way to get anamorphic widescreen on this movie is to...well...matte the movie. Which is exactly what we don't want.

As jaeufraser says... Full-frame is the original aspect, folks. A better studio may put this out some day... but if they are *actually* a better studio, they'll still follow the director's wishes and release it 1.33:1.

Yes, the important thing is OAR. Every release isn't necessarily supposed to be widescreen, and this film is one example. This disc certainly won't be "pan and scam" as you put it.

Nice. I was never able to find the Anchor Bay disc, I'd love to have this in my collection.
It's a pretty straight movie, nowhere near as operatic or comic bookish as Dawn of the Dead or Creepshow. This is definetely my third favortie Romero movie.

I didn't realize you couldn't get it any more, so this is good news. I have the first one and I've introduced a few people to it and it's always a hit. Pretty gruesome too. Those razor blade scenes always get me...

Uncut?
I could be mistaken, but I think Romero said there are a few different versions of the movie floating around. The VHS copy I saw years ago always appeared to end a bit abruptly.

THe cover is certainly much better on this new release than the anchor bay one!
I've had the original dvd for ages, but haven't watched it yet (on dvd - i've seen the movie over the years several times). I guess i missed out on selling another out of print movie that I didn't even know was out of print.
I got into this movie after Soft Cell released the song 'Martin' inspired by the movie. Awesome song!
'Martin is a boy with problems. Martin has a family history! (kill, kill kill kill)"

Romero prefers it shown open matte 1.33. He never liked it shown in matted widescreen, though most theaters screened it at 1.85. He actually talks about this issue in the (excellent) commentary.
