Bill O'Reilly: "87% of Daily Show viewers are intoxicated"

I searched to see if this was a topic but didn't come up with anything.

Jon Stewart was on Bill O'Reilly last week and somehow I missed it. Here's an excerpt from the interview where O'Reilly says that 87% of Daily Show viewers are intoxicated while the watch it.

---------------------------------------------------------
O'REILLY: But it is. It's true. I mean, you've got stoned slackers watching your dopey show every night, OK, and they can vote.

STEWART: Yeah.

O'REILLY: You can't stop them.

STEWART: Yeah, I just don't know how motivated they would be, these stoned slackers.

O'REILLY: Yeah, it just depends if they have to go out that day.

STEWART: What am I, a Cheech and Chong movie? Stoned slackers?

O'REILLY: Come on, you do the research, you know the research on your program.

STEWART: No, we don't.

O'REILLY: Eighty-seven percent are intoxicated when they watch it. You didn't see that?

STEWART: No, I didn't realize that.

O'REILLY: Yeah, we have that there

----------------------------------------------------------
O'Reilly is a fucking lunatic.

Here's a link to the full transcript:

I like O'Reilly, but that's a pretty absurd statistic. Where did he get that from?

I am intoxicated 87% of the time when I watch the Daily show.

It just sounds like O'Reilly is jealous of Stewart for getting a guest that won't come on his show. I've heard him talk shit about several people that didn't want to come on his show (justifiably or not).

It didn't sound like Stewart was debating the statistic or even questioning its source. They must have had something.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're kidding. Who in their right mind would actually lend credence to such an absurd comment by seriously debating it. If you read the entire transcript it becomes fairly obvious that Stewart's joking with him in regard to that asinine comment during the entire conversation.

I don't think Stewart really cared. He knows what the Daily Show is. He's not going to try and defend its integrity.

O'Reilly can be really hilarious.

O'REILLY: What do you think Kerry wants to get out of coming on your show?

STEWART: He wants to get what any politician does: access to a new constituency. He wants to get...

O'REILLY: The stoned slackers.

STEWART: ... that's exactly right, because the stoned slackers, this election is going to rely on the undecided. Who is more undecided than...

O'REILLY: Than the stoned slacker, right.

STEWART: ... the people who are high. Right now, they're thinking to themselves, ice cream or pretzels, ice cream or pretzels.
I wish I had seen this. I wonder if they could use a clip on The Daily Show. Bill keeps ripping the show and Jon just goes right along with it.

I watched that piece. It was a joke. O'Reilly was screwing with Jon and Jon was screwing with O'Reilly. They went back and forth the whole time. It was pretty fun to watch.

Anyone who takes the 87% stat as a fact may just be

Yeah it seems like a joke, I have heard Stewart do some pretty stupid statistics quotes myself and O'Reilly was just doing a spoof of the Daily Show.

I think then O'Reilly has been spoofing the Daily Show 5 nights a week for about the last 7 years.

That would explain everything.

wow.

doesn't Billy Boy realize that they're drunk because they take a shot each time he tells a guest on his show to "shut up"...?

That's not how they market themselves. Their slogans are "Fair and Balanced" and "We report. You decide." They position themselves as a legitimate source of news, not as entertainment. I'm aware that they are full of shit but they have an enormous audience, it's naive to think that they don't influence public opinion and that they are only "entertainment".

Of course they don't market themselves that way. That's where the "dumber than dirt" equation comes in. I know that they influence opinion. I didn't say "everyone knows its entertainment." I said "it's entertainment.

For years wrestling positioned itself as authentic too.

you kidding? Bill O'Reilly takes pride in the fact that people are too "cowardly" to come on his show. He is way more successful than Jon Stewart, so he couldn't care less who goes on the Daily Show, except of the fact that the so called stoned slackers who don't care about politics might vote just because of something they see on the Daily Show, which is appalling.

O'Reilly is a 100% jerk and bully. Anyone see the tabloid tv show Inside Edition "anchored" by O'Reilly? He has zero credibility to attack or poke fun at somone else's tv show.

What do you find appalling, exactly? The idea that someone may become motivated to vote, or that they might be voting for the guy you don't like?
