Surround Sound System
I am doing some research on a new surround sound system. I am looking for a receiver (with dts decoder) and a cd player, but I don't want the system to be huge. I love the size of the bose system, but I heard some negatives about it. Is there any other system that is close in size to the bose system? Can anyone recommend a good system? I want to try to keep the price around $2,000.

Surround sound receivers (in no particular order) I would check out: Denon, Onkyo, Harmon Kardon, Yamaha.
Speakers (in no particular order): Paradigm, B&W, Energy, NHT. I'm sure others will have some worthy suggestions.
And yes, avoid Bose at all costs. If you buy Bose we'll hunt you down and slap you.

I second Mr. Salty's choices and I will add just one piece of advice.
Go out and listen to as many speakers as you can. They are the voice of your system and no receiver, no matter what the cost will make bad speakers sound good.

When auditioning speakers it's a good idea to take your own music with you, something you know well, and you know is recorded well.

If you live by a Good Guys, I would check out the Energy Act 6 system coupled with a Denon 1805. I haven't gone shopping for a DVD player lately so I couldn't say, but you should go with a universal player.
These pieces should cost you no more thant 2k and would blow the Bose cube's pants off exposing their little willies.
