Wow, great deal. And this is a *fantastic* set -- definitely the best one out there for these public domain films.

Thanks! Ordered it from Overstock. Never seen the movies, but worth checking them out for the price, and given that it's put out by Roan, which does an excellent job with these types of movies...

Can someone provide a link? I can't seem to find it. From DVD Empire, the cover should look like this.

Overstock link

You might want to order soon though. The site now says "Limited Inventory! Sell out Risk: VERY HIGH" for the item...

Picked this set up years ago during a Troma sale and its really worth getting. One of the better Roan releases.

Oldies.com looks like it has the same set but comes in a wood style case with different artwork. Not sure if it has the same specs or not. This set is $19.98 not counting shipping & has Alpha Video as the company. I was curious if it has the same transfers as the Roan Group since this is a 4-disc set.

Anyone have this set?

Go for the Roan set - Alpha's transfers are usually from less pristine sources. Plus, the Roan set is cheaper!

I haven't seen the Alpha release, but I do have a few of their other titles - basically they just slap a transfer on DVD and through it out there, so the qulaity can vary wildly.

Roan Group tracks down the best elements available, and in the case of Dick Tracy the picture quality is amazing for films nearly 60 years old. Very few flaws, almost no scratches and/or dirt - I'm impressed! I seriously doubt if any other releases of these public domain titles even approaches this.

Just a heads up that after waiting a couple days for this to come back in stock at Overstock, I bought a new copy from an Amazon Marketplace seller. Link is here. Total was $8.99 ($6.50 + $2.49 shipping).

We are only about 2 months away from Roan's yearly sale in which all 1-disc titles are $1.99 and 2-disc titles (such as this) are $2.99. Shipping is outrageous, but it's a great sale... I hope someone posts when they have it, because I forget to check very often.

According to this current thread, while there will be sales, there wil be no "major" sale from the Troma Store like the one you're remembering:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=386637

(The good news is that Troma has lowered their shipping costs from astronomical to now being only "above average".)

Edit: Currently at the Troma Store, this same title is selling for $21.21 plus s/h.

even if the Alpha transfers were passable (doubt it), you would miss out on the radio b'cast of the hilarious "Dick Tracy in B Flat", which is worth the price of the Roan set!

I've got an unopened version of the Roan set I'd be happy to trade if anyone is interested. Don't really have much interest in it. I musta picked it up during that sale.

Shoot me an email if interested, it wouldn't take much to get it.
