Jet Li - Hero - Nov. 30, 2004
This will be a blind buy for me.

Miramax Brings Hero Home Soon

Miramax is wasting no time getting Jet Li martial arts drama Hero to DVD. The film, which topped the box office the last two weekends, will hit stores on November 30th.
The DVD will offer both subtitled and dubbed English translations, as well as a making-of featurette and interview with presenter Quentin Tarantino.
Miramax, which has long had the longest windows of any supplier, is making an effort to shorten the window of time between its films' theatrical and video releases.

So what will be the difference between this DVD and the below Region 0 DVD? So far the only complaints I've been hearing about the Miramax version is some of the subtitles are different/inaccurate. Maybe it's too early to tell yet as obviously nobody has the DVD in hand to review. Just wondering outloud as whether or not this warrants a repurchase for me.

This is fast. It isn't playing anywhere near me, which is sad, because I have heard it is great to see on the big screen. Regardless, I am sure it will look nice at casa onebyone as well. Definite somewhat but not really blind buy for me.

I think I will pass. I am really happy with that Region 0 I bought. I also saw in the international forum that Miramax has a tendency to gunk up foreign films.

I'll wait until the Miramax version is released to compare with the Region 0 DVDs. Just making sure since you never know what you are going to get with Miramax.
BTW, I seen Hero on the theatre and I have to say it was one of the most gorgeous film I seen in a while. Visuals were outstanding.

I will definately skip this version. While I have considered upgrading my Region 0 disc (assuming there is better), I don't like some of the changes in subtitles Miramax did, one in particular stands out. Although, didn't the theatrial release have an different intro (a map?) than the region 0? I liked that, but not enough to make me get this version.

Per DVDTalk.com's home page:
So, this release will most likely be the same transfer as that oof the Region 0 disk's.
DVDs announced this week that street this year include: Hero on 11/30 - Disney had it on the shelf for 2 years until its US release which was a smash hit, see it and you'll know why...

I will probably rebuy this one because my version has that damn little pop-up that comes on and no DTS 6.1, as well as no subtitles for the prologue and epilogue.

I'll probably stick with the version I already have (don't really need the English dub track or QT interview).

Sweet! I'm looking to upgrade my Region 0. For some strange reason, the Battle Among the Leaves refuses to play properly on one of my players while my other player has a problem with the ending. This release will have DTS too (and a some English featurettes) so that's just icing on the cake for me. Just crossing my fingers that the transfer is done properly by Miramax.
What else comes with the Japanese SE, btw? That packaging is nice.
