Accidentally tore my Black hawk Down (3-disc) digipack

I accidentally tore my Black Hawk Down (3-disc) digipack recently. I was trying to remove that damned eyesore that is that black security sticker they put under the clear plastic holder for the first disc. I've had success removing these before (like I did with my Master & Commander digipack) using a small knife and carefully removing the security sticker thingy.

Anyhoo, this time luck was not on my side. It was sorta coming out just fine and then it suddenly tore a huge chunk of the underlying artwork off.

I tried calling Columbia/Tristar, via the costumer service number found in this site, to see if there was some way to order a replacement case. The lady who answered fowarded me to a number that relates directly to their DVDs. Sadly, it was fully automated with very few options and no option to speak to a living breathing human being.

I called back to the first number and told her I didn't find anything helpful on that other line but her response was simply to foward me back to that damned automated number.

Any other way I might reach them with my query?

I never said I wanted them to replace it for free. I'm willing to pay for a new case. Notice that I said I called them "to see if there was some way to order a replacement case" NOT "to see if they'd take pity on me and give me a new case for free".

And it was by accident. I didn't go "gee, I feel like tearing my digipack".

Geez.

Anyhoo, since the phone calls were a bust, anyone know of a customer service e-mail address that might help?

Roc, there's no way they will replace it. In this day of pirating, they just don't take that risk. Even if you said it came that way, they would just direct you to return it to the point of purchase.

Let this be a lesson to you however. While I wouldn't use the term "anal retentive", sometimes we just have to live with that stuff on dvds.

RocShemp, you are not alone. Nor are you being anal retentive.

I hate those stickers and remove all of them.

The clear digipack ones are a real pain. They do not need to be in there at all. They could be on a small slip of paper or another easily disposed of method. Studios spend a lot of time and money on customer attracting designs, then muck it up with these damn tags. Even if they were put on in a tidy and level fashion in a bottom corner or something would be better than the way they slap them on now.

How is it being anal not wanting a nasty black rectangle marring a cool bit of coverart? This isn't like exchanging a DVD because the cover has a teensy nick or bump. I wish they'd put these on the shrink wrap (with another layer of shrink wrap over it if need be to detter would-be thieves) and I've seen the paper type that Ginsu mentions. That's a much better option and seems to set off the alarms just as well as the plastic glued on types. the difference is the ones as a papaer insert don't mar the packaging.

And I can't exchange this as I bought the DVD way back when. So I was hoping they'd exchange the cover art. Maybe if I paid a fee AND handed in my original cover (and the receipt which I think I still may have)?

Very funny KillerQ.

But, seriously, anyone know of a customer service e-mail address? Or shall I try the first number (the one with an actual human picking up) for the fifth time?

One would think he would learn, but smileys make all the difference.

I don't think you will have any luck getting a new cas through the studio.

Stupidity is all relative, though, QuiGonJosh. You thread crapped, pure and simple.

I too sympathize with RocShemp and hate the sensor strips stuck on DVD art. But I do admit to being a bit anal when it comes to conditions of DVD cases (it helps that they be in near mint condition, should I ever feel the need to sell them, though, as I often do). I also concur it “mars” DVD art.

Learn from this experience and leave the security stickers alone. You might be able to rebuy it cheap slightly used at Amazon Marketplace or Half.com.
