Anyone Seen "And the Band Played On?"

I saw this movie a dozen times over the years and it always, always makes me cry. Such a good movie though. I heard it was released on DVD but I dont know where to get it. I've tried several places but no one seems to have heard of it. Can anyone help me?

Welcome to the forum!

It's only $9.00 at DeepDiscountDVD:

I finally saw it a few months ago. Great film. Hard to watch though, IMO.

"And the Band Played On" was released by HBO video.

Best to order it fm Amazon since this is an old (yet powerful) film. This film doesn't make me cry but more disgusted by the fact that medical bureacracy and power-tripping was more of a priority in some people's minds than warning about the "upcoming" plague of AIDS.

Unsettling how it was initially named GRID (gay-related immunodeficiency disease) and it was traced fm one flight attendant in Montreal.

Good flick. Some of the cameos are a little out of place, but otherwise a solid film.

I'm always okay until the Elton John song at the end over the people who have died and the quilt. Inevitably I break down at that point.

A good companion piece to this is COMMON THREADS: Stories From The Quilt which won the Academy Award as best documentary.

This recently released DVD has some very solid extras - highly recommended.

They made us watch this film when I was a junior in High school probably in 93 or 94. Good movie, one that I would most likely would not buy on dvd though. There is only so many times I can watch a movie like that.

Excellent film! But for me, i can only watch films like this and, say, The Passion of the Christ, ever so often. Very emotional stuff, but brilliant in itself.

Well, I finally found it after looking for it all weekend. It was actually alot cheaper than deepdiscountdvd.com. I found it on www.gothamcityent.com for only $4.99. To Cardiac161: I totally understand what you mean when you say you are disgusted by it. I know people who have lived with the disease and to think that if the people portrayed in the movie could have worked together a little bit that we could have already had a cure really disgusts me also. Think of how many innocent people have suffered and are going to suffer because people couldnt get their acts together...It really sucks!
