Platoon was. In fact IIRC from the commentary they made it a point to have the actor gone by the next day after their character was killed off (so the other actors feel that sense of loss after having gone through the boot camp they put them through together).

Dead Poets Society
Weir wanted the young actors to feel a sense of growth and accomplishment that would be reflected in their performances.
Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone
Same again; inexperienced kids.

Jackson would have tried to film as much as possible in the natural elements and locations, before bringing it inside WETA for the greenscreen virtual enviroments. On bad days when the weather or what not stops production, he probably grabbed pick up shot that he could do indoors.

You are correct. Cate Blanchett had limited time on the set so they filmed all her scenes first from what I recall. That does mean that one of the final shots of ROTK was shot first.

I also remember from the LOTR commentary that Aragorn fighting the wraiths with the four hobbits in Fellowship was his first scene.

I'm pretty sure a lot of Saving Private Ryan was in order. I recall hearing that once someone died in the movie, they were off the set for real, thus giving the illusion of loss to the actors.

I agree with your hmmm donnachaone. From what I recall they didn't just ask the actor to get off the set, they usually shot them in the head. Infront of the other actors. Thus giving the illusion of loss of the actor.

Dances With Wolves shoot in sequential order. While Cast Away shot in two parts sequentially, but I think the scenes in the two part wasn't shot sequentially.
