When will X-Box 2 be released?

I'm thinking of buying an X-Box now since they're so cheap, but the thread about the new controller for the X-Box 2 got me worried. When will the X-Box 2 be released? Are there any rumours? I'm really new to the X-Box scene, so please forgive me if this has been widely discussed before, but searching for X-Box 2 is like taking a piss in the atlantic...

Rumors have some system being released late next year. I'd venture to say 2006 although a 2005 release is not unlikely.

I'm hoping for 2006 release...

Get the Xbox! You have some amazing games on it! Rainbow 6 right now....and Halo 2 in November!

Refreshing?

I've been curious about XBOX for a while now too; but I don't want to get burned by buying a system this far into its lifespan - so I'll stick with my PS2 and GC for now (and my stack of unplayed "wtf are you thinking of buying an XBOX for" games).

To be honest; XBOX Live is one of the most attractive features for me - but the selection of games is just a little lacking. Next generation however, I'm pretty sure I'll dump Nintendo and get an XBOX2 and a PS3... oh yeah!

You've convinced me. I'm gonna buy an Xbox. It's only $150 here right now, so I'm gonna go out and get me one with the GTA3/VC double pack.

Interesting to hear they are coming out with XBOX 2.

I thought MSFT was trying to get out of the console business.

Why would you think that? There's been as many rumors floating around about Xbox 2 for the last year or so as there have been for the PS3.

Late 2005 is possible, 2006 is more likely from what I've read.

I'd hold off a couple months on buying any console right now, as there's the chance of a price drop or official bundle for the holidays. And if not, stores will definitely have there own bundles and deals in Oct.- Dec.
