Please help me identify this Native American (themed) film!

Hey all, my girlfriend has recently gotten into Native-American themed movies (she absolutely loves The Last of the Mohicans). Anyways, she's trying to find the name of this one film that she saw some time ago but doesn't really remember.

Apparently it deals with a young white girl/woman whose family(?) gets killed by a group of Native American warriors. She's found alone carrying a holy bible and is taken by the warriors rather than killed. She adapts to their culture I suppose, and falls in love with one of the tribesmen. Later her white fiancee(?) comes looking for her while hunting down her kidnappers and she's forced to choose between which life she wants.

Make sense to anyone? I can't figure out the movie. Hope my "pitch" sounds familiar to someone here.

Not sure of the film you're talking about, but I recommend watching "Little Big Man" with your GF, if you haven't seen it already. It deals with very similar topics, with a slight comedic twist. Great performance by Dustin Hoffman.

Pow-Wow Highway is pretty funny and I really liked Smoke Signals. They are both modern day American Indian themed movies.

Sounds similar to The Searchers. Except she's kidnapped as a little girl, and too young to have a fiancé.

I'm pretty sure she's thinking of White Comanche...

On the topic of Native American movies I do not recommend Smoke Signals. Its probably the most god-awfully boring movie I've ever seen.

I liked it when I saw it in the theaters, but upon a second viewing it really didn't hold up well. Pretty crappy movie.

mmm... i don't think it's the Searchers...

my gf says that she thinks the reason the girl wasn't killed was because she was holding a holy bible and that the native american people took interest in it.

any more suggestions (aside from mr. shatner's filmography)? thanks guys!

She's got to be thinking of this movie. Most people consider it Jacques Ertaud's masterpiece.

OK, one last ditch attempt...

The girl is of marrying age... supposedly the warrior who captures her had visions of her before they met... she's torn between loving her captor and the man she was originally going to be a mail order bride for.

A thousand thank-you's from both my gf and me if anyone can identify the movie!

Was it a TV movie? It could be Stolen Women, Captured Hearts.

I know it's of no help to you, but Thunderheart was pretty good.

Not exactly how you described it but I think it's close. Could it be this klunker:

I would like to know what bluemagic found out. I did not see the movie Stolen Woman, Captured Hearts yet so I don't know if that Bible incident is in it and that mail order bride stuff.

Not the title you're looking for, but you should also check out Clearcut, Black Robe, and A Man Called Horse.

Sounds a bit like Dances with Wolves, but that answer seems a little too obvious.

The only other movie I can think of that sound kind of similar is Soldier Blue.

It seems to have some similarities to what you described, but I'm not sure if it's the correct movie.

It was Stolen Woman Captured Hearts. I saw it and she was holding a bible. Thanks again.
