Renny Harlin's Mindhunters going direct to video
http://www.fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=2702
"Guess we knew this was coming... Variety reports that after announcing several release dates for each, Dimension has decided to send Jaume Balagueró's DARKNESS and Renny Harlin's MINDHUNTERS direct to video. The studio acquired both movies ages ago and most recently had slated them for June 18 and June 4 of this year, respectively, but now has apparently lost faith in their theatrical potential. The trade is referring to Balagueró's film under its original title, though as we reported here, it will play at LA's Screamfest in October under the title THE DARK. For now, there are only two genre films confirmed (or as confirmed as it gets for Dimension) on its theatrical slate, both of which have also been much-delayed: Wes Craven's CURSED (February 25, 2005) and Terry Gilliam's THE BROTHERS GRIMM (November 23, 2005). Still no word on when the likes of Balagueró's THE NAMELESS, Brian Gilbert's THE GATHERING, Vincenzo Natali's CYPHER etc. will escape from Dimension's overcrowded shelf."
Too bad. I thought it looked pretty decent. Here's the trailer.

I'm almost relieved at this news....Dimension/Miramax has been dragging ass on releasing this in theaters, so at least if it goes direct to DVD, I'll get to see the damn movie.

Its an ok movie, another variation on the "guess who's the killer" genre but there are some inventive kills, some are totally off the wall and unbelieveable if you examine them closely with the plot, but whatever.

I found Darkness to be quite interesting. It's lacking a bit in parts, but overall, a very enjoyable film. Hopefully the DVD release will contain a few interesting extras.

While Mindhunters was fun to watch; the longer you thought about it afterward, it just didn't make a lot of sense. There was no way to figure out the "killer" due to the fact that it was impossible to know the motif of the "killer" and how the "killer" knew exactly which person to kill and when to kill them. Not to mention a HUGE "Red Herring" that played out and then just didn't make sense why. But most of this came out while I was thinking about the movie afterwards. It is a suspenseful movie that suffered from a conclusion that even the writer(s) didn't know where it was going. Maybe worth a (cheap) rental or download for the death scenes. This is just the opinion of someone who was eager to see the movie.

According to amazon's (take it for what it's worth) info - this is supposedly coming to theaters May 13th 2005 in a nationwide release. *yay* However, it has been in theaters in other countries recently and managed to rake in some decent coin as well as decent reviews... this may mean a DVD release in another country before May.

According to www.filmjerk.com, it has been delayed again.
Mindhunters (Miramax): Yet another new release date for the Renny Harlin-directed thriller. Film is now set to open on May 27, two weeks later than previously scheduled

Ryo posted this info a while back; since then, Darkness was indeed given a theater release, and a quite decent one for its type.
I'm told by colleagues that Mindhunters is great fun. (Work at a theater... sometimes we get official screener DVDs. Rare, but nice)

Forgot about this thread - I've since seen Mindhunters and I thought it was just allright. It had alot going for it and I really liked alot of it, but they had problems wrapping it up I think. It's indeed pretty fun and worth seeing.
